<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I understand the nature of the Bulls, what they're about and how coach Scott Skiles makes it work: all for one, one for all, and that stuff. But watching Kevin Garnett during the game Saturday, which the Bulls lost 91-81, you couldn't help but think this:

The Bulls need one of those.

A superstar, that is. The Bulls lost at home to a mediocre team with a superstar. And that's not a condemnation of their approach, but rather a sign of reality. One great player can beat one little engine that could. Garnett had 18 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists. No Bull stepped up.

''I know it's fashionable to declare someone as 'The Man,''' Skiles said. ''We're not like that. We need several guys to play well. When they do, we normally win. When they don't, we normally lose.''

Chicago teams should always have a superstar. It's a big city, an appealing market, a lot of money, loyal fans. Everything is here, and there's no reason that one of the game's best players shouldn't always be here. This city thrives on its stars, compares them through the generations, like Urlacher to Butkus.

Luol Deng has been the Bulls player most likely to emerge. Lately, he has been getting more physical, aggressive, confident. You can't read too much into one game, but he blended into Bulldom on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Garnett, the Timberwolves and Allen Iverson have combined for a strange and twisting story. Just a few days ago, Garnett seemed to be saying he was unhappy in Minnesota, that management doesn't put him in a position to win a championship.

And that registered on the Garnett-to-Chicago radar again. Every little Garnett movement has registered here for years. We keep waiting for him. After all, Minnesota isn't going to make the playoffs, and Garnett eats up so much payroll that it's tough for the Timberwolves to rebuild. But when Iverson and Philadelphia seemed to have their final fallout, Garnett immediately started to beg, publicly, for Minnesota management to get Iverson.

''As hard as it is to admit, a change may be the best thing for everyone,'' Iverson said.

''We're going to trade him,'' 76ers chairman Ed Snider said.

''Come on, boy,'' Garnett said on TV, pleading to Iverson. ''I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want to play with him.''

Iverson is a pain. And the idea of him fitting in with, say, the Bulls and Skiles seems funny. But now it appears that even Minnesota -- nice, wholesome, quiet Minnesota -- might have two superstars while the Bulls keep chugging along in unison.

It sounds better the way the Bulls are doing it, actually. But it's not going to work.

That isn't a knock on Bulls general manager John Paxson. It's not easy to land superstars. And if Minnesota ever would have been willing to give up Garnett, it surely would have wanted some package of players from the Bulls, including Deng. That might bust up the whole team.

No, this is just a reminder that the Bulls still don't have that one guy who creates a buzz, a guy who draws everyone's attention. A guy who can take a game over by himself.

''Anytime you see a great player doing what he does, and other teams are sort of helpless to stop him, it's impressive,'' Skiles said. ''[With] some of the great players, on certain nights there's nothing you can do.''

The Bulls need that, and not just for appearances. The NBA is a star-driven league, and it's too hard to win a championship without one.</div>

I would like Jesus on our team. Plus deng has been our most consistent player. look for Gordons time to plumet at the 2. problem is that ray is still an undersized guard and he doesnt penetrate often but having both ray and ben in with 5 seconds left to win sounds good to me.

1st round pick, 2nd round picks, Viktor Khryapa (since he wants playing time), P.J. Brown, Michael Sweetney, and Marty.

The guy i hate to lose is P.J. Brown tho.

This would put the Sonics insanely over the leagues 15 man roster limit, not to mention put us way below it.

Seattle can always waive a scrub or give a scrub to waive and Chicago just not include Marty. As long as Chicago does not have a 12 man roster its ok to be below a 15 man roster as long as the team has 13-15 players on it.

I don't see it happening. The Sonics are not about to do a trade based on picks and role players involving a rookie lottery pick and their current franchise player, at least not at this point. The Knicks are not having as bad a season as many anticipated, with the somewhat emergence of Eddy Curry they might even finish the year around .500. Do the Sonics really want to give up Allen for a mid lottery pick? not to mention the fact if we did this we would have absolutely no money to spend over the next couple of seasons on our young guys. Even though we have early bird rights on all of them we would be in luxury tax hell.

You don't need a 'superstar' per say to have success... just like the Pistons a couple years back. They didn't have a definite 'superstar' but a solid unit and look what they were able to accomplish. It will just take a little bit of time for the team to adjust to it's new pieces and then there should be improvement for sure.
