<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The mystery that is the Nets' dreary start got a little more mysterious Monday as Dave D'Alessandro suggested off-court issues, particularly among the Big Three, are part of the problem. Without getting into specifics, D'Alessandro writes, "legitimate chemistry issues, personality conflicts and breakdowns in mutual trust" are effecting the team, adding "these matters are unrelated to their jobs". Meanwhile, Rod Thorn called Lawrence Frank a "terrific" coach who is "not the problem in any way." </div> Source From what I heard, VC and RJ started bumping heads.
I posted this in the other thread, but didn't get a response. I'll post it here: Also...has anyone noticed this about Marcus Williams...that he kinda ignores Vince and others on offense? It seems as if RJ, Wright, Hasaan Adams, and Twin are the only guys he likes to feed. He ignores the rest. I really wish he'd stop looking for his own shot. I know I read on the Star Ledger website that Vince was once asked about how good the rookies are and he only talked about Hasaan Adams being great and Boone working hard, but no mention of Marcus. Is there growing tension there?
I posted something similiar before. It does seem like there is some tension between Vince and Marcus. And I have noticed that Vince doesn't get the ball from Marcus, to the point where Vince looks pissed. Williams seems to like to set up plays for the other teammates instead of giving it to Carter. Marcus should change this because you really don't want to piss off a veteren like Carter.
I'd trade Marcus THIS SEASON if it was a problem because I don't want the re-signing of Carter to get in trouble. Either that or trade Carter.
The way that things are looking I don't think Carter would want to be a part of us next season. At this point I think he should be used as a trading chip. Trading Marcus would hurt us, especially in the future.
I've been back in forth in my head about who I'd trade first, Marcus or Carter...And I think I finally decided Marcus. If he has trouble with Vince, what is to say he won't have trouble with future stars joining our team? I don't remember many teammates of Vince complaining about him in the past. I know Charles Oakley has, but then again it didn't really effect their on-court play cause Oakley was throwning numerous outlet passes/oops to Carter in their days together...Besides that, I can't remember any teammates saying that Carter was a difficult person to deal with...Though you ssuggest RJ and Carter might be bumping heads too. But the question over this issue that begs: How long before Marcus develops ill-will torwards RJ, Kidd, Wright, Krstic, and decides not to pass to them? I mean, he's had personal issues in college, it makes me really worry if he'll turn into a "cancer" (for lack of a better term) like Steve Francis, Stephon Marbury, or Baron Davis has been called as of late. Though Baron and Steve certainly have picked up their level play. From the article you posted: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">One player, who also requested anonymity so as not to disclose his team's dysfunction, was glib: "We'd make a pretty good HBO series right now," he said.</div> I hope that's just an overstatement...
I wonder if it is personal between Marcus and Vince. I mean your a rookie, you just don't decide not to pass the ball to a certain player, especially a veteren. Maybe Marcus feels like he can make a better play, then when Carter has a ball and throws up another jumper. I don't think Marcus will become a Nets "cancer", but unfortunately we can't make that judgement. We are pratically in the dark, and the issue that the Nets currently have might be bigger than we expect. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Though you ssuggest RJ and Carter might be bumping heads too. </div> I believe this might be the situation. Over what? I have no idea, but there was story last season as well that talked about RJ and VC bumping heads. Of course the Nets denied it.
It's what's great about being in the NY Metropolitan team, you hear a lot of stories, but unfortunately you have to rummage through which of it is true, and which is false. From what I've seen, Marcus' play is erratic and all over the place. He likes to look for his shot a lot, when I think he should be initiating the offense. I don't know why, he has great court vision, definitely tops in the league with Kidd, Nash, Deron Williams, and Chris Paul. What could it be that Marcus doesn't like about Vince? I know I get mad at Vince cause I think he should be more aggressive, is it the same? From interviews, RJ has said that he thinks Carter is better than him at things such as shooting, coming off of screens, reading defenses, and that he's willing to take a back seat and playing great d, rebounding if it results in wins. Maybe that's what's troubling him? That he's taking a back seat and it's not resulting in wins? RJ has complained publically that Coach Frank should get him the ball more when the Nets were slumping it last year. Like you said, we have no idea, but they better shape up fast. I assume Kidd will eventually set his troops straight. There is not a finer leader in this league.
Marcus has been doing great, and he is young I don't think the Nets should trade him, if there is a problem with Vince, maybe just play Marcus less when Vince is on the court or let Vince be the pg when Marcus is playing with him.
