<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">If Wade and Payton are either limited or unable to play tonight, the bulk of the ball-handling duties will fall to Jason Williams, who has been in and out of the lineup because of soreness since his return from offseason knee surgery.

''We're all kind of bothered and injured,'' Williams said. ``I really don't look at it any other way.''

Williams, who did not play in Friday's loss at Denver because it was the second of back-to-back games, practiced in a limited role Sunday and expects to play. Riley said he has a little more confidence now in seldom-used rookie point guard Chris Quinn, who played most of the fourth quarter at Denver.

''A lot of people are ailing. This is what a team goes through,'' Payton said. ``You get hurt, you get sick, a lot of guys out. You have to step up and do what has to be done.''

The team's health concerns are one issue. Its apparent lack of heart at times in the 123-107 loss at Denver was another source of pain for Riley.

Riley, who said his team ''gave up'' instead of responding to some of the Nuggets' showboating on the court.

'They kept running and dunking and smiling at us and having a good ol' time, which infuriated me,'' Riley said.

``We have to somewhere take it personal with any team that dunks over the top of us and smiles at us. We don't show any hostility at all.''

Perhaps it will all pass, like last season.

Heat players said they see a lot of similarities between this season and last, when Miami was 10-10 after playing with O'Neal sidelined 18 games with an ankle injury. Williams and James Posey also missed time during that stretch.

''We've shown we can come out of it,'' center Alonzo Mourning said of the Heat, which won nine of its next 12 as games players returned from injuries and went on to its first NBA title.</div>
