Sixers 2007 Draft: Time to rebuild- Part 1 Well, considering we will be in a rebuilding phase when Iverson finally gets dealt, might as well start talking about this now. Now the most desired thing is to try to get our hands on another 1st round pick. What are our needs though? Sixers need another quality big man, preferrably a Center or backup Power Forward We also need a pure, pass first PG if we can't get one back in the Iverson trade We need to build things around Andre Iguodala Assuming we'll more than likely be lottery bound, we need to acquire another 1st round pick, preferrably in the mid-late first round. Some of our options would be: <div align="center"> <font size=""3"">Greg Oden/7-0/250/C/Ohio St/ Freshman</font> Strengths: Great shot blocker, good rebounder, can score pretty well in the paint, Good attitude. Weaknesses: Lacks that mean streak. Why draft him?: I guess you could call this the "sexy pick" , but think about it; a big man of his caliber doesn't come along every day. And a Center rotation of Oden/Dalembert/Hunter gives me the chills if you ask me. A guy like Oden to put alongside Iguodala would be very promising for the future. Would we have high enough of a pick to snag him up? Possibly, but we'd be foolish to pass him up. <font size=""3"">Joakim Noah/6-11/230/PF-C/Florida/Junior</font> Strengths: Great shot blocker, good rebounder, great length, great energy type of guy Weaknesses: Needs to get stronger, only average offensive game Why draft him?: He's one of the most NBA ready players in College. A big man with his ability to utilize his length to pull down boards and block shots is a more than welcome asset to a team like the 76ers. He's also a great energy player, something that can be very well used on any team, also we'd have a much higher chance drafting him than Oden. <font size=""3"">Yi Jianlian/7-0/230/PF-SF/China/1987</font> Strengths: Good ballhandling, solid range, decent defender/shotblocker, tremendous athleticism. Weaknesses: Lacks strength, might be a project. Why draft him?: Now before you bark at me.. Yeah, I know that we don't normally do all that hot with international prospects, but Yi is one of the more intriguing International prospects since Yao Ming. With his athleticism and ability, he can be a Garnett type player in the NBA. He won't give you as much instant help as a Greg Oden or Joakim Noah would, and he probably won't adapt to the NBA style of play right away, but he'd certainly would be tough to pass on, if another team were to snag him up and becomes a star. <font size=""3"">Tyler Hansbrough/6-9/245/PF/UNC/Sophmore</font> Strengths: Very strong player, great rebounder, decent touch Weaknesses: A bit undersized, needs more post moves Why draft him?: While he can't block shots like Oden or Noah, he still brings alot to the table for a big man. Hansbrough is a scrappy guys, and will fight for rebounds. He has decent enough strength to hang with most big men in the NBA, he can come in and produce right away. <font size=""3"">Ronald Steele/6-2/185/PG/Alabama/Jr.</font> Strengths: Very capable leader, great passer, good defender, quick. Weaknesses: Jumpshot could be slightly better, doesn't really have jaw dropping athleticism. Why draft him?: He's a very capable, pure point guard that can come in and provide good leadership and give Kevin Ollie some extra rest(assuming he's still around). His great passing abillity and defense is very welcomed on a team like the Sixers, and would probably make up for not taking Marcus Williams in the past draft. <font size=""3"">Acie Law/6-3/195/PG/Texas A&M/Senior</font></div> Strengths: Good passer, decent scorer, jumpshot has greatly improved Weaknesses: Seems to have alot of turnovers Why draft him?: He may be not as safe of a late pick as Steele would be, but certainly a capable PG. Turnovers are an issue, but can be fixed. He also seems to be a very solid 3pt shooter, so he'll be able to spread the floor and hit the open shot. <div align="center"> <font size=""3"">Curtis Sumpter/6-7/223/SF-PF/Villanova/Senior</font> Strengths: Good strength, could play a Kenny Thomas-like role on a team. Weaknesses: Hadn't played basketball in a year due to injury, lost a little bit of step, but not drastic Why draft him?: Local talent, and while he lost a bit of his step, he still brings plenty to the table with his strength and versatility. He can be what Kenny Thomas was to the Sixers a couple years ago, would be a solid 2nd round pickup. <font size=""3"">Jermareo Davidson/6-10/220/PF-C/Alabama/Senior</font></div> Strengths: Tremendous rebounder, good shot blocker, good athlete Weaknesses: Needs alot more strength if he doesn't wanna get pushed around by NBA bigs, raw offensively Why draft him?: The Sixers lack rebounding, and Davidson would provide plenty of rebounds, he isn't going to give you much offensively, but he can come in and scrap for rebounds and block shots for us. Regardless of if we want to admit it or not, we're going to need to rebuild, and there are definitely options to choose from. Will these players' stock still be the same when draft night rolls around? Probably not. But Philly is going to need to rebuild, and it's best to really start that process through the 07 draft. And why not start discussing now? No reason not to. Thoughts?
Good post, but what if the Sixers end up making the playoffs with whatever they end up with after the trade? Obviously Mo Cheeks can't just tank every game to get a top 3 pick and it's still early in the season. It's obvious that the Sixers will want to rebuild, but exactly how do they do that without upsetting the fans every game?

If you trade Iverson, then you're going to be in a situation where you have to draft the best player available.
It's way to early to begin talking about the draft. As hard as it is to believe the 76ers are only a couple games from being the fourth seed in the eastern conference.

As the season goes by I'll of course go over and have updates as things go by.
The longer the 76ers wait to trade AI, the more losses the team can accumulate and improve their odds on draft day.
Randolph morris wouldnt be a bad pick if he decides to go pro, good pick for mid to late first round.
