Jackson Says Iverson In Lakers Uni Not "Impossible"

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">

Phil Jackson had an opportunity to shoot down any thoughts of a potential Lakers deal for Allen Iverson, but didn't Sunday night. The Lakers coach had a chance to snuff any rumors that the Lakers might not be interested in acquiring Iverson, but wouldn't.

"I would not say, no, about that," Jackson said. "The owner of this team over the years has always looked at All-Star talent. It's not right to say we have no interest."

How serious an interest the Lakers have in Iverson remained undefined, however.

The Philadelphia 76ers told Iverson to go home last week and said they would trade him. Rumors have been flying around the league about teams' interest in him.

At first glance, the Lakers would not seem to be one of the teams that would be willing to deal with Philadelphia. Teams such as the Memphis Grizzlies or Charlotte Bobcats would figure to be more logical trade partners with the 76ers.

Iverson's salary of more then $18 million this season means the Lakers would have to send the 76ers a package of players whose salaries add up to that figure in order to meet NBA salary-cap rules.

Iverson has had a stormy relationship with his coaches while with the 76ers, most notably Larry Brown. However, the two helped the 76ers reach the 2001 NBA Finals, losing to the Lakers in five games. As of Sunday, Iverson was leading the league in scoring with a 31.2-point average.

"I guess not," Jackson said when asked if he was surprised the 76ers said they would trade Iverson. "It's not a big surprise."

How can you ever say that? A team with KOBE will never turn into the knicks. Damn Iverson in the Lakers Uniform will be 20X upgrade in PG position. Iverson will fit for the Triangle.
Dude Imagine, get Iverson this year.
Wait for KG to Opt Out in 2008 and then sign him.

Iverson will fit into the triangle? How? AI and Kobe won't ever work. Period. Both need the ball too much to be effective

actually, off-the-ball, Kobe has improved tremendously. Not on the level of Marion, but he doesn't need the ball as much as AI to be effective.

Since when can the Lakers not put up points?

The only upgrades we need are defensive ones. Plenty of players on our roster can put the ball in the basket with a lot more efficiency than Iverson.

Just out of curiosity for the PRO-Iverson to LA fans, what would you give up to land him?

I can't possibly see this working out. But if it does, Lakers would be nowhere near as good as they are now. Kobe+Iverson will NEVER work.

Not a fan of this idea. We'd have to give up too much to get an aging ball-hog who may do more harm than good. The chemistry of the team is good right now, let's not wreck a good thing.

i'd give up Mihm, Cook, and Mckie. lol. Its not going to happen. If they trade Bynum or Odom I'd be royally pissed.
