I wonder why I like college ball so much more than pro. Then I look at these stats, and see Stephon Marbury with 10k more votes than Michael Redd, and Shaq with 100k more than Dwight. And then I don't wonder anymore. Overall, fan voting is one of the worst things in pro sports. This voting is as bad as I've seen in any sport.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Schaddy:</div><div class="quote_post">Overall, fan voting is one of the worst things in pro sports. This voting is as bad as I've seen in any sport.</div> Almost as bad as the BCS.... I kid, I kid. You're right though. The thought that Shaq will be rewarded for being injured and players like Tracy McGrady get votes because they're recognizable is ridiculous. Knowledgable NBA fans get punished with a crappy All-Star Game, because the league's catering towards the casual fan.
Nah man, the BCS is worse than this. That crap is the worst thing in all of sports if you ask me. I wrote a big article about it for the footbal site I write for, too, if you anybody had a mind to read it. But I won't spam JBB with all that crap LOL. It's frustrating in every sport. As a Cubs fan, I have to shake my head when I see the voting for the MLB All Star game. There are moron Cubs homers who voted for Derrek Lee even though he was hurt all year; the year before, I think Nomar was 2nd in the 1st Base voting despite tearing his hamstring 3 weeks into the season. It's the same everywhere; fans shouldn't have the final say in who gets in and/or starts. It's good to get fans involved with their sport, but not to the point that a legion of homers can mess things up for deserving players. I feel bad for guys like Dwight and Redd, who are having career years and not getting the credit they deserve because they don't play in NYC or have a loyal crowd of superfans voting a thousand times a day.
Yeah ! Bosh, James, McGrady, Bryant - all named. I'm happy for KG, too. But I still understand why Shaq has more votes than Dwight. :S East is going to win this anyway I think.
So how does it actually work? I'm not sure so someone clarify...... is it the actual fan votes that count? Or does the NBA have a special committee that eventually chooses? And why is Deron Williams not even listed for West guards? And Boozer pretty much last in West forwards? Wow...

wow the reserve guards are gunna be hard cause theres kidd, carter, redd, arenas, johnson, billups also surprised to see bosh over oneil
It's an all star game, it's for entertainment purposes. The players with the biggest fanbases are going to get the most votes.
I don't even bother watching the All-Star game anymore, I'd rather be boarding. It's a waste of a good weekend. I could careless who the fans vote for.
The votes look to be pretty accurate besides the whole Shaq over Dwight Howard race. I'll vote more often to help get him in.
<div class="quote_poster">thedude9990 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">out of curiosity, if iverson gets traded to the west would his votes carry over?</div> Yes they would.
So west has the same lineup as last year? And also, I am surprised to see Shaq over Dwight. Some crazy fans.
Injured Shaq over Dwight? Tmac over Nash? lol @ Shane Battier having twice as many votes than Marion, Boozer, Josh Howard, and Pau Gasol.
<div class="quote_poster">Swish15 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">You guys have to help get Dwight in there over Shaq. We all know he deserves it.</div> it's like he'll be the back up Center in the east over Ben Wallace. that's not bad. I'm amazed Jason Terry has more votes than Tony Parker. Terry's an excellent guard, but we're talking about Tony Pizzle here
I would find it pretty funny if Iverson doesn't get traded (and never played for the Sixers again), yet still gets the starting nod by the fans.
