<div class="quote_poster">Umair Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Dude I said it before like 100 times, ASG's aren't anything big. They are for the best players, but also for the fans. I know that the best players should participate in it and all, but the fans should decide which players they want in it. Just because you think player A deserves to start instead of player B because player A had better stats, doesnt mean anything. Its about who everyone around the world want to see. It is a popularity vote but at the same time, an even for the best players. Look there are atleast 24 players that are going to play in the ASG. 10 of them will start. the 10 are picked by the fans. The 10 who are picked to start by the fans don't really mean anything. The 10 who get picked to start are probably just popular around the world. The rest of the 14 are probably also popular but not as popular. The 14 are probably skilled, but not as popular. So the startes are determined by popularity, but the ones who make the bench deserve it. Its not like Paul Pierce/Gilbert Arenas are going to be bumped out of the ASG just because of fans. The good players all make it, but some just dont make the All Star Team as starters.</div>All Star games aren't anything big for you and me, but for the players it is a sense of accomplishment. Not only that but there are many players in the league that benefit from contract bonuses as well as endorsements if they are declared all stars. Of course the big names are going to be there at the game, but what makes me mad is that these guys are taking spots from upcoming stars/veterans who deserve it more. Guys like Ben Wallace, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, Zach Randolph, etc. guys that are borderline all star picks will be hurt by these fan selections, which is a shame. The fan votes really count for a lot more than just ten all star spots. Last year was a perfect example, if it was not for a last minute injury, Arenas (who was top 3 in the league in scoring) would have not been a part of the all star game. You can say 100 more times, that its about what the fans want to see, and I will say 100 times in return that is not how it should be, which is why the format should be altered in someway.

I had never thought of it from a player like Deron Williams' perspective.

The problem is not in the selections, but that the NBA actually want the game to mean somthing, if they just blew it off as a bit of fun, then I really wouldnt care who was selected, but if they're going to market the game as a battle between the best players from each conference like they do, you at least need the best players from each conference playing in the game, not guys who have played less than 5 games this season. Some trades and players values are hinged on the fact that they've played in the All Star game, the ASG is thought of more than you think.

If you can't name any, you should stop from here The ASG format is quite fair and balance. You have the product that fans prefer to see and you have the product that deserve it. The starters don't mean anything; it doesn't mean the starters are better than the benches. At the end of the day, ASG is about giving back to the fans. If the fan isn't allow to vote, then in some weird scenerio that D-Wade, Kobe, Lebron, Tmac, VC, AI, those exciting players cannot participate in an ASG due to other guys having a better season than them, then what is there to see in an ASG? Would you rather see Kobe vs Dwade or Kevin Martin vs Joe Johnson, in case if KM and JJ having a better season than both Kobe and Dwade. If you want to worry about the possibility that Steve Nash gets left off in ASG, then create a campaigne for him, so that fans get notice and start voting for him. I say the ASG selection, by far, is the best format you can ask for. And to lay off Tmac and Shaq as not the best player in the game is pure innocent. When both are healthy, are one of the most dominant force in the NBA.

You're telling me Shaq starting for the East after partaking in 4 games for the season is fair and balanced? lol, gimme a break. You have guys out there who are playing their hearts out, and who should be in the game, but due to fan bias, they once again miss out. Fans only vote for the "cool" players. As for last years game, there were quite a few players that didnt deserve to be in the game that were, mainly most of the ones that are getting the top votes this season, its the same old problem every year. I dont understand your "giving back to the fans" reasoning either, if you havent noticed, the fans make the NBA what it is, not the players. Look at the situation in Seattle for proof of that, if you dont have the support, your franchise simply wont survive.
u ppl expect the fans to think about who deserves it more? these people are just random guys who vote for who they think they like more [>_>]
Why don't we just call it the "China-picks-the-starters" Game cuz it's ridiculous for T-Mac to have more votes than Nash. They must have not gotten the NJ/Phx 2 OT thriller or else it's an easy pick for Nash and Kidd as starters.

Do you think he will eventually be in an ASG? Look at the big picture man. When I'm referring to fair and balance, I look at it as a whole. In general, you have a mix of fan favorite and players that deserves it. The NBA satisfies both sides, the fan and the player. Sure Shaq don't deserve to be in an ASG, but judging from his accomplishment, skill, size he is definitely worth to mention as an All Star till he retires. Lastly, the fan don't just vote for the "cool" player, they vote for the "dominant" player. Every single one of those 10 starters are once or currently a dominant player. Don't you see the pattern? If they just vote for the cool player, then Tim Duncan shouldn't even be vote starter for all these years. As far as the ASG goes, it will be nothing without the fan. And you or anyone else who complaining about this, just suck it up or don't bother watching it at all because there's going to be million others throughout the world who will watch it. Look at the majority, don't go with the minority.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Iverson, a seven-time All-Star, transformed the 76ers from lottery losers to contenders, though he couldn't bring home an NBA title to this championship-starved city. He came close in 2001, when the 76ers lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA finals. Since then the team has fallen from the elite, missing the playoffs twice in the last three seasons.</div> Just highlighting my previous point.
<div class="quote_poster">hustler Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Billups, Hamilton, Prince, Sheed, Nazr should start for the East. No bias here.</div> Right... Just like Nash, Barbosa, Marion, Diaw, and Stoudemire should start for the West. That'd be a good game.
Splicing two teams on East and West... Nash/Tmac/Marion/Amare/Yao vs. Billups/Wade/Tayshawn/Rasheed/Shaq I think West would win.
I think it would be nice to have some of the younger stars voted in. The All Star Game has been the same for too long. Get Chris Paul or Dwight Howard in there, instead of aging stars like TMac and Shaq. They're still great players, but, they're injured half the time anyway...
T-Mac?? T-mac is constantly injured and has not played since dec.11 !! We're talking about THIS season's ASG, aren't we?? He is a great player, but he is averaging 5 pts less than usual...it's obviously not his season, so no ASG for him this year.
