The Raptors are trying to get in on the Allen Iverson trade sweepstakes.

Armed with about $2 million (U.S.) in salary cap space and looking to improve an 8-14 team, the Raptors have been making calls for about a week trying to help facilitate a multi-team deal for the recalcitrant Philadelphia 76ers guard.

Under the NBA's arcane salary cap rules, Toronto's surplus could help another team obtain Iverson. For instance, Toronto could trade a player making $3 million to Philadelphia or another team while taking back more than $5 million in salary from the Sixers or the other team. That would allow the other two teams to finalize an Iverson deal and satisfy cap rules.

According to sources, Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo has contacted a handful of teams offering his cap space ? and players ? as a conduit for a deal. There have been no serious talks yet, but the longer Iverson sits idle, the more chances Colangelo will have to facilitate a deal.

The Raptors would be looking for a proven scorer who plays either shooting guard or small forward in any trade. They are okay with a point guard tandem of T.J. Ford and Jose Calderon and more than satisfied with a big-man rotation of Chris Bosh, Andrea Bargnani, Rasho Nesterovic and Jorge Garbajosa</div>

I doubt Bryan will give up on Jones this early, besides if he does, he'd be selling low.

Graham and/or Peterson are the most tradable pieces on this team. Maybe Magette could be coming our way. You never know.

When we say "involved" i think it most likely means Mopete in the form of an expiring contract. Other than that it would just be filler

Yeah i was thinking more like Mo Pete, Graham, or Humphries.

Or Raps could go another way and try to get Pau Gasol since he "suggested" a trade.

whats up with the magette fascination? he's injury prone, has a bad attitude and inconsistent with his shot. personally, i prefer mike miller and i do acknowledge his injury history, but the rewards outweigh the risks in miller's case.

    Fascination? Not really.

Since we're looking for a wing scorer, I think he is the most likely choice to arrive up north.

fascination in general terms which seem to follow him around, not directed at u specifically. although, my beef is that he's hasn't demonstrated any real production on a consistent basis except for that contract season. the question to be asked is: would u take him over mo and joey?

Maggette's game would be perferct for the raps. He's one of, if not the best player at driving to the basket with the ball. With post players like Bosh and Bargniani being able to draw their defenders away from the basket with their jumpshots, I think Maggette could excel. I don't know much about his attitude, off court issues etc. but as far as ball goes he'd be great.

I like Maggette's game a lot (one of my fav's) but right now i'd have to disagree that we need him on our team. He'd be the best slasher we have but the problem is we have enough guys who can get to the basket like that. Teams are colapsing on us in the interior because we lack a consistant outside shooting threat. I'd rather take our Maggette trade chips and throw them at someone who can extend the defense.

He makes 7 mil this year, 7.8 mil next year, and has a player option for 8.4 mill the year after.

I don't know whether he is what the Raptors need, and who we would have to give up? would it hurt our depth?
