Gasol told the "El Tirachanas" program on Spanish television's COPE that he wanted "to be with a team competing for a ring," something that he added would be "very difficult" to do with the Grizzlies.</div> Source
At least he's honest and realistic about his situation. You really can't blame either side, Memphis has created a tough scenario for their fans and players. Their moves suggest they want to rebuild, but at the same time with the team for sale, it's hard to pull the trigger on any major deals. A lot of teams would jump at a chance to land Gasol.
On RealGm, someone came up with the scenario of... Magic trade: Grant Hill(huge expiring) Darko Milicic(expiring and young big) JJ Redick(could be intriguing) Grizzlies trade: Pau Gasol Mike Miller I'm not too sure if Grizzlie fans would do this, but that sounds like a pretty good trade for both sides on what each team is trying to become.
Send him to the Lakers. We'll trade him for Cook and Mckie. haha. On a serious note, how can you blame the guy. He wants to WIN!

That's So amusing.
Everyone's reading way too much into these comments. What's he going to say, that he's happy losing? Of course not. He's not demanding a trade or anything close to that. He's just saying that he's unhappy with losing, which every single person in the organization is. They're not all going to jump ship though. And Gators, that trade really sucks for the Grizzlies. You're getting their two franchise players for a bunch of nothing in return. Sure, Grant Hill's contract is expiring, but so is Eddie Jones'. That'd be a ridiculous amount of cap room for a team that has absolutely no free agent appeal. A perennial loser, a bad location, poor fan attendance, and a coach that no one wants to play for don't exactly make for the type of situation that a guy like Dirk Nowitzki or Dwayne Wade would leave their teams for in the free agency. Throw Dwight Howard in there...

We've already got $15-16M in expiring money, we don't need more. We're hardly going to give up our 26yo, 7ft franchise player and our second best player (who is still young too) for a croc, a kid who hasn't done much at all, and an injury prone rookie. If we did this we'd set the franchise back 10 years.

How can they fix that with aging smaller non-pure point guards that like to shoot and run the floor a lot + without some of their best leaders/defensive players. Even with Mike Miller putting up good numbers, there's got to be something he gives up on the defensive end. What about the rest of the players too?
