I was looking at this big guy as a potential back-up center, and from what I've read I think Mullin should take a look at signing him as a project. We could put him on IR and he could work with POB. Kosta Perovic Birthdate: 2/19/85 NBA Position: Center Ht: 7-2 Wt: 242 European Team: Partizan Belgrade Hometown: Belgrade, Yugoslavia NBA Comparison: Zydrunas Ilgauskas Strengths: Huge. Towers over opponents. Has soft hands and is excellent at putting back missed shots. A very good passer out of the post. Works his tail off on the court...A decent shot blocker, because of his gigantic size.... Has good touch around the bsket and can shoot from mid range ... I don't know why Mullin didn't draft this guy.... wait, he did!!! So where the heck is he? I'm sure he's too young and needs a lot of work, but the kid is 7'2". I wonder how long before he joins the team, or whether he never will. Any thoughts?

<div class="quote_poster">DTKennedy Wrote</div><div class="quote_post"> You had me going for a minute.. skinny and raw, iirc?</div> He's on ice in the Euro leagues, getting some more work. Meanwhile we don't get a salary hit or use a roster spot-we got real steals with Barnes + Robo.
Yeah, I would assume he's raw, though he had 4 or so years of international ball, and I would think POB couldn't be that much more "polished." I do understand how he's on ice, and doesn't take up a roster spot, etc. But it would be nice to have another 7-footer -- this one 7'2" with a giant wingspan from what I hear -- on the roster. I mean, Zarko isn't doing anything, we could swap their spots to take a look at the kid. I guess Mully & Co. have evaluated it and I trust them, it's just an enticing possibility IMO.
Actually, Mullin may have another steal in the second round here. Hes having a good season averaging 13.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.2 blocks (I think, I'm not familiar with their format), in 24 minutes a night shooting 58% from the field. According to the scouting reports on him hes very large and very skilled but very unathletic and weak. Supposedly has a nice hook shoot, is very skilled with either hand (thought I'd include that for CR2's sake), has very good footwork, large wingspan, can run the floor decently but would look really bad in the NBA. If he does pan out he'd be like a homeless man's Yao or a poor man's Big Z. Stats

Because height won't help him much in the position he will be in. He needs to have some base like in his legs. Hopefully he can become 280, but that's like 40 lb weight gain. Maybe he can shoot for Big Z's weight. 260 lbs.
I doubt he can put on much weight and still have decent mobility. As is- he's said to not be that quick. Next year he may get a look. For now,POB is seeing just a little game time. Kosta can get more attention next year when POB has advanced.
From what I've read this guy is nowhere near ready for the NBA. He's got size but that's about it. And even his size is questionable. 7'2" and only 240? He's skinneir than Andris with no athletic ability. I've heard it was a surprise that he was picked at all
I think it was 2004 that he was being projected a top 5, I think on HoopsHype or RealGM or something. Guess he slipped, eh?
This pick will most likely turn out to be nothing, but so will Seattles tenth pick. It is high risk pick, but who cares for a second rounder. Please do not consider his home league stats. In euroleague he has 10.6 ppg and 7.1 rpg while playing as twin towers with Pedrag Drobnjak. This is not bad, but I don't know for the NBA. The big mens game is very different. I always had the right feeling for Biedrins, I don't have it now.

I wanted to say: who cares that a second rounder is high risk, not who cares about second round picks. I think Kosta is not a bad second round pick, even if he turns out to be nothing at all. GS is the last team that should complain about second round picks.
<div class="quote_poster">AnimeFANatic Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Monta Ellis.</div> He could have easily just been a weak, low bb IQ, no defense, tweener with a bum knee. We took a risk (maybe Mullin knew it was a sure thing but no one else in the league did) and he turned out to be the player who he is today. Thats basically all second round picks are good for; going after guys who have so many question marks that GMs won't take them in the first round because of the risk. Kosta will more than likely not amount to much but no one knows, it was worth taking a flyer on a 7'2 skilled big man, especially when you've got a guy like Mullin who has a great history of drafting good young players.
Yeah -- I can't remember who else was on the board at the time, but whoever it was I probably wouldn't have recognized them. And with a second rounder, yeah -- take a shot. I mean, my motto in the draft is: when in doubt, go with the 7-footer.

If Kosta shows up-whenever-and is semi decent-he may have value more as a trade chip than a keeper.
Does anyone know if this guy is a good inside scorer? Strength is important, but so is good footwork, positioning, and the ability to finish with contact. It's possible to be that skinny and score well, but I dunno... Most strong post players are 6'8-7'0 245 or above. Being that tall and that light, I wonder if he has any base in his legs to hold his ground.
