<div class="quote_poster">durvasa Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah, that quote doesn't seem a big deal to me. I don't think he meant it to come off as a critique. You know how announcers some times say, "Well, that's a shot that makes a coach go, 'No, no, no, YES!' "? They aren't usually being critical or anything about it. It's just an observation that's meant to be somewhat humorous. I think that's how Kobe meant it.

Man, I never thought I'd be defending Kobe in the Lakers forum. [IMG]</div>

I know, I was thinking the same thing, I'm shocked! [IMG]

    How Ironic

Kobe chucks up 38-40 shots while getting his 50-60 points along with getting 81 while also going to the line over 20+ times Is ok yet when Arenas does It, It is suddenly a joke?. Complaining about how many FT's he gets. The bad shots Arenas takes.

Of all people to make these comments, Kobe has no right moaning about Arenas taking so many free-throws and the shots he threw up considering Kobe has a history of this.

I respect him as a player but these comments were really stupid to make.</div>
U still don't think he's the best player in the league?

i dont understand why people cant get off kobes back. gilbert dropped 60 on his team in his home, i wouldve been pissed too.
good thing that it was only a mild verbal attack, nothing physical. if i was kobe and i saw gilbert giving a mocking bow to the fans, i wouldve went nate robinson on his ass. that was just being disrespectful to the fans.
so you guys expected kobe to do/say nothing after that?

I've never thought he was the best player. I'm not about to change my mind now.

Thats not to say I don't think he is great. Just not the best.

I seriously can't fathom how some people are so gullable to media spins. One omitted sentence makes a world of difference and a person's tone on text is also deceiving.

Nonetheless, it was pretty obvious to me the whole time that he wasn't slandering Arenas. Kobe's done some dumb things, but he's not that dumb where he's going to slander someone for doing the same things he does and the same things he gets criticized for... that common sense alone should have given it away that this was a spin

Seriously though, for those who jumped on this so quickly, you guys need to bow your heads in shame, because you guys were duped again by the media, lol

Beacuse I know that it's very uncomfortable to play when play on a road and there are fans screaming and shouting very "unfriendly ;D" words at you, especially at the free throw line. But what Kobe did wasn't quite the same thing.
I still don't believe that NBA stars and players will let themselves interupt of something like that.

Keep believing that If you wish.

Nothing Kobe said was in any way positive about Gibo, he was clearly putting him down for his performance. You don't call saying he was a chucker slandering Arenas? C'mon now. Kobe was pissed his team lost to an average team who struggle on the road. Kobe got embarrassed in his own gym. Gibert even took a bow. His performance was that good and no one could stop him. For Arenas to score 60 in your gym, It is embarassing no matter how great a scorer and player Gilbert Is.

This was not down to the media trying to make Kobe a bad guy here. He did that himself.

Did you hear his response or did you read it? Calling him a chucker is a slander when by Areanas own admission, says he's a chucker ... So by your logic, he's slandering himself? I dont buy that and neither should you ...

Let me paraphrase how the interview went. .. They ask Kobe 'how did Arenas score 60 on you guys', Kobe responds by saying he got to the line 27 times, he took incredibly difficut shots and made them ....

I find it unbelievable that you still believe he was trying to slander him ... now if he said something like 'he took difficut shots but got lucky and made them', then i can see that being a slander

Kobe's first words to the media was "he took terrible shots" and he didn't stop there he then repeats himself by going over the word awful. There's no way you can say he was not trying to downplay his performance. His first comment wasn't well "he played a great game and really carried his team" Kobe's first comment was making the excuse of the amount of free-throws Arenas got. There is no real way you can convince me that Kobe was somehow mis-quoted by what he said. Kobe got embarrassed on his home floor and let his emotions get the best of him with his comments.

Kobe didn't say he was a chucker?

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"so I haven't gotten used to that mentality of just chucking it up there"</div>

Kobe's quote after the game. Basically implying he was being a chucker when infact that couldn't be further from the truth.

so it was said, now it was implied?

If you're using the ESPN quote, here it is from the daily dime ... his first words, right ....

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">You tip your hat and say, 'See you next time,'" he said. "I don't think he has a conscience. I really don't. He was chucking out there. He took some horrible shots and he made some big ones. I don't get a chance to play him much. I'll be ready next time." </div>

Look we can agree to disagree.. but let me say this, when one's judgment on a matter is based on the speculation of implication, it opens up a high margin of error wherein things often go way beyond the original context.

This is what I think. I hope Kobe did take it personally. NOT IN MY HOUSE.. [IMG] I hope Gilbert is mad. Because the next time these two meet, Kobe will make it a point to shut him down and score big. I can't wait for that rematch. Kobe always loves to proves doubters and haters wrong. Most of the time, it is he who comes out on top.

Gil did great, and Kobe is taking shots at him? Just wrong man, clear wrong. Kobe scores 53, and shoots twice as much as he makes(He shot just over 50%),
then Gil scores 53+ and Kobe says this, amazing. Why does Kobe cry so much?( i know, its that dumb thread in the NBA BBall forum, and i dont actualy mean it.)

Anyone watch Tuesday Night with Ahmad last night?

They played the clip of what Kobe said...You guys shoulda heard his tone. He was definitely not complimenting Arenas and everyone on the show was aware of it.

Damon Jones was on, and him and Patrick Ewing were laughing cause they couldn't believe it.

Damon said (I'm paraphrasing I can't remember word for word) For a guy who plays in a similar fashion, that's pretty rediculous. He said come on Kobe, just be happy for the guy, everyone was happy for you when you scored 81.

Patrick Ewing said stuff along the same lines. I wouldn't say he's a Kobe hater at all, but he's made it clear he feels Lebron James is the best player in the league.

I wouldn't say Kobe should have been happy for the guy, after all, it was at Staples Center against the Lakers, but I still feel Kobe was out of line with those comments. One reason Kobe's my favorite player is because he always kept everything on the court, and was very humble and didn't make dumb comments like this off the court.

Well I'm not going to freak out. I don't care. Gil has made dubious comments in the past as well; it's not a big deal.

<div class="quote_poster">heyvoon Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">thats the most accurate post in this thread. kobe wasn't too pleased with gilbert scoring 60 on his home floor, thats something kobe usually brings. anyone wouldve been frusterated by having someone take your spotlight (especially kobe, who is always used to having the spotlight)

so he took a cheap shot at gilbert (verbally). although i can see why he downplayed his performance, i expected more from the new matured kobe
I hope he takes back what he said

but all of the "kobe haters" (as they are called) should see the whole context, not just seeing an arrogant, cocky kobe</div>

I don't know what sort of context is going to make Kobe come of as any less of a jerk for those comments. I don't think I have any sort of obligation to think to myself, "well, he's upset because the spotlight got stolen." Why on earth should I view him as MORE sympathetic because his jerk remarks were made while he's in a pissy mood?
