Lol, he only wants his son now that hes been playing well. And since Dun HAS been playing well you would actually have to think about trading him for Maggette. Dun is a very nice player to have in the system we run, he can play PF, SF, bring the ball up, shoot, make some good passes, run the team, run the break, but he can't penetrate well, hes not that aggressive, poor defender, poor rebounder for his size. Maggette can and does penetrate very well, HITS FTs (we need a guy who can shoot around 85% like he does and can consistently get to the line to manufacture points when we're on a cold streak), good rebounder for his size, very athletic, I don't know much about his defense but from what I've heard its pretty solid, though not great. Of course his cons are that hes not a very good long range shooter, not really a smart player, doesn't seem to like coming off the bench. Ultimately Maggette seems to provide some major needs for us; getting to the FT line and converting, rebounding, and defending and perhaps the most intriguing part is that we shed some salary and get Maggette's shorter deal. Plus with Maggette, losing Pietrus next offseason won't hurt as much. It could be complicated trading Dun for Mags though since Dun is BYC and both teams are over the cap. It would have to be a three way something like this: GS trades: Dunleavy, Cabarkapa, McLeod, Roberson (2nd round picks?) GS receives: Maggette, Duhon LAC trades: Maggette LAC receives: Dunleavy Chi trades: Duhon Chi recieves: Zarko, McLeod, Roberson, (2nd round picks?) GS trades Dun, 4 mils of expiring contracts and expendable players, maybe a 2nd round pick or two for Maggette, good swingman who can get to the line, rebound, play some defense, and Duhon, a good PG who can run a team and shoot the ball. Clips trade Mags for Dun straight up, seems fair to me but maybe I'm biased, we might have to throw in some of those expiring contracts or picks. Chicago trades Duhon for 4 mils of expiring contracts and perhaps some picks, they lose their backup PG but keep their cap situation very stable and still be able to sign a very nice FA with all of their accumulated expiring contracts. Really an 3rd team with cap space would work since we can just send them free expiring contracts (who are decent players that we just have no room for), preferably we'd get a decent player back though.
Dunleavy might be hard to trade, given the fact he had been signed not too long ago. He might still be in BYC status. Chemistry wise, Mags might be hard to deal with for some players and coaches. He likes to score and might ignore certain team aspects of the game like being unselfish or recognizing where to get open off the ball. Talk about a guy that should have stayed at Duke a while longer to get some team fundamentals. Good player, but he had to work hard to catch up and he's still borderline star below Jrich's level IMO. But Mags is a 20ppg scorer and good rebounder when healthy. Great athlete and good free throw shooter too. Nice strength and shooting touch. Has the Jrich power guard type body.
Run BJM, for the record, Dunleavy Sr. has always wanted to coach his son in the NBA. He's tried a few times to acquire Dunleavy, but neither side has been able to find the right deal. With the new extension he signed, he has job security and 4 years to continue coaching the Clippers. The Clippers are definitely looking to shake-up their roster, even Sam Cassell's name has popped up as potentially being on the trading block.
Dunleavy is just now starting to play relatively close to expectations and then we want to trade him? I think Mags is way bigger than Jrich and scores more. I would love to have him...
I'm not sure if either team would deal the two straight up for one another. Don Nelson has made a career out of developing athletic wing players and guards. He would do wonders for Maggette's game and Maggette would bring some toughness to the roster.
OK so Dun Sr. wants Dun Jr., but how does Clips mgmt feel about him? And if Maggette is so unhappy with 26 mpg on a 10-13 team I'm not sure sure he'll be that cheery on a 12-14 Warriors team that hasn't been to the playoffs since before Monica Lewinsky. It's a bit of a risk, but I'd do it in a second. Dun has looked good recently off the bench but as noted here he still gives up too much, and I don't trust him to not disappear again. But do we need another perennially-injured starter?
I guess i am one of the few against MAggette coming here. I just don't get excited about a guy that is injured every season. And he has never played a complete season, in fact he has only played over 70 games as a starter only once in his 8 year career. Only 32 games last year. By the way both Richardson and MAggette are listed as exactly the same size 6' 6" and 225 lbs Don't we have enough players that seem chronically injured? And i agreee with those who said he might not be a good fit chemistry wise. I am all for moving Dunleavy, just not for Maggette and unfortunately aside from Elton there really is no one else on that roster i would like to see as a warrior unless we are talking expiring contracts.
<div class="quote_poster">custodianrules2 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I'd take Mags over Pietrus, that's for sure.</div> I would cringe at the thought of having the perimeter defensive options be Monta Ellis, Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, Corey Maggette, and Keith McLeod... But yeah, if we can pull off a Dunleavy for Maggette deal, then let's do it.

I must be crazy, or something -- For several years I would have drooled over Dun for Mags. But right now, the way Dunleavy has been playing, I'm actually a little reluctant to trade him!! He could be that bench role-player that Nelson loves. If he can do what he's been doing consistently, he would be well worth the $$ he's getting. It's just that he's never been able to sustain it. However, if GS was going to trade him, then now would be a good time. Remember, just like the stock market: buy low, sell high. It's too late for the buying part, but GS can still choose when and if to sell, and it would be smart to trade Dun while his value is high. Think about it: next year, people could be laughing at the notion of Dun for Mags, if Dun goes back to hibernation and Mags goes back to 20ppg.

No way in hell does Dun sustain his current level of performance, no way (again, his very good offensive performance is masking his crap defense right now). And why pay a bench player (Dun) starter money when we're not even set on starters yet? It looks like Maggette only has two years left on his contract with a player option for a third.
Maggette is the typical high scorer on a dog of a team. The Clips soared when all of the attention was on Brand, Cassell and Mobley. No way I want Maggette. Injury prone. Dunleavy is getting better, you can see it.
Shorter, smaller, and cheaper contract alone makes me to do it. And even though I am bit reluctant to trade Dunleavy, because he is playing well as 6th man role, if we can trade him for Mag, Mag also seems like a good fit for run and gunning Warriors. If Nelson can make Dunleavy and Pietrus useful, maybe he can do a wonder with Mag as well. And, maybe we can find a way to utilize Murphy as well, since we don't have to line him up with Dunleavy anymore...
People are relunctant to deal Dunleavy?? Wow, what am I missing? Maggette is the aditote to the 3 point shooting on this team. I would also imagine that Maggette would fit better with the running/uptempo game due to his athleticism and the half-court game with his ability to get to the line. He is so athletic. I remember seeing a highlite on ESPN where he made a put-back dunk where his head literally came about a centimeter from the rim. Eventhough Dunleavy is getting better especially since he is getting to the line more, I still would take Maggette over Dunleavy for this team. Now if someone can make JRich play like Maggette as in get to the FT line and knock down FT's and play inside more, then maybe we don't need to do this deal. But since Jason is the team's leading 3 point attempted shooter from last season, and seeing him shoot many 3's still this season, I think Maggette is a good addition. This will allow Baron, Monta, and Maggette focus on getting to the rim while Jason, Mickael, and Matt can keep shooting three pointers. With Dunleavy, there are just too many outside players and not enough players penetrating constantly.
Just a bit, since Dunleavy has been playing well. But of course, I would make that trade everytime at the end...
