Allen Iverson was traded today to Denver, for Andre Miller, Joe Smith (two expiring contracts) and 2 future first round picks. Be carefull with this Nuggets. I thing AI will start as PG, maybe the lineup will be like this: Iverson Smith Anthony (Najera while he is suspended) Nene (besides Kenyon Martin) Camby
This thread really has nothing to do with Laker basketball. There are discussions going on about this topic in both the Denver forums as well as the Sixers forums. This thread is locked.
Actually I'm going to re-open this thread and turn it into .. How does this effect the Lakers? Everyone figured Denver was out of the playoff picture with the suspensions, adding Iverson gives them hope again. This trade could also prompt other bubble playoff teams to make a move, which would create even more competition for the Lakers to make the post-season.
Well it effects the lakers by giving them more competition. Like Shape said other teams will now be prompted to make a move which will make things that much tougher for us. Does that mean that we have to make a move? I don't think so, we just have to learn how to play defense consistently. Right now the bright spot of our Laker team is the offense. Our real weakness is defending and rotation. We have the speed, we have the big bodies, it's just guys like Smush have to learn to go OVER screens and not under. Guys have to put their hand up when they're in front of their man, sometimes I see guys standing right there but when the opposition pulls up they just stand and watch looking like they just hope the ball doesn't go in. But most importantly the team has to communicate. Communication is the key... matter of fact a trade wouldn't be a bad idea, a veteran post player that will communicate with the other big on the floor... isn't PJ Brown looking to get traded? He would fit in nicely.
Well, I'm going to go a differnet route. I think this trade was good for the Lakers chances of......................aquiring Kevin Garnett. You can't honestly tell me Garnett isn't fumed about this trade. Denver gets Iverson for basically 1 starter, 1 expiring contract, and 2 late first round picks (may as well be 2nd rounders). You must be kidding if you think the Timberwolves didn't have anything better to offer. If they were really intent on being a contender, and giving Garnett some help, they would have definetly pushed the trade harder. Minnesota is the perfect place for Allen Iverson. It was a match made in heaven. Minnesota has a young, talented Philly-bred player in Randy Foye, who would have been an instant fan favorite in Philadelphia, and young players like Rashad McCants and Craig Smith. Philadelphia has Allen Iverson, who, if traded to Minnesota can make an instant contending team with Kevin Garnett. In the end, I don't think Minnesota pushed hard enough, because they definetly had all the right pieces to give the Sixers the best deal. As of now, Kevin Garnett is still stuck with a team going no-where, and if he decides to continue his career with the Timberwolves, I doubt he will ever win a ring anytime soon.

The Nuggets were able to keep their core and aquire AI. That was a steal. Now if Kevin Garnett decides to become a champion he should demand a trade and come to the Lakers.
Right now i'm not really sure if KG would be the right route. We would get direct and immediate results but would we win the big one? Kobe and Garnett together sounds really devestating and most likely just to match contracts with Garnett then Odom has to go which I don't want. Bynum would probably have to go there as well. I know that this is Los Angeles, a city where it's win now or go home but I learn more towards the prospect of what Bynum and what our other younger players can bring to the table more then how much KG has left in the tank.

Garnett can still stay with the Wolves, and hope that they make one last push to help him contend. If not, Garnett has the option of opting out next season, so we can then have the option of pursuing him as a FA in 08
