On other Jazz forums I go to, they've been saying we should maybe look into a move that will help us get a more experienced SG. It's sort of weird all of a sudden Giri starts getting some crazy minutes, but could we be showcasing him? The Clippers said they need a shooter, could Giri and Hoffa (Expiring Contract) with 2 1st's for Maggette might be an appealing offer, possibly throw in C.J. Miles. After all, we did get him to sign a offer sheet but it was matched. I know the Iverson move doesn't really help Denver right now, he's pretty much playing with a worse version of the Sixers and might have a bit rust right now. But when Melo does get back, does Melo and AI gel in time to be ready for the playoffs? Another thing was that Andre Miller was the whole reason their team ran, they were already the 2nd highest scoring team in the League, what does getting rid of your only true PG for a undersized SG do? They also got smaller, maybe even worse defensively. AI isn't going to be a long-term answer for the Nuggets either, they traded away 2 draft picks in this year's so called deep draft (I don't think it's that deep but it could possibly be good, just depends on who comes out early). That Nuggets pick could also be a Lotto if they don't make playoffs, and the West is tough right now. Tell me what you guys think....
Derek Fisher is very experienced. Yes, he's a PG....... but he's been playing SG. Giricek is a good shooter. I dunno, I think we are fine the way we are. Unless someone offers us a deal we can't resist or something. And initially I thought Denver got a great deal and Philly pretty much got robbed. But now that I think about it..... like you said, they were already a high scoring team. And now they got rid of Miller, a player who is 3rd in the NBA in assists per game, for a smaller pointguard who scores a lot. Hopefully this turns out well but I can see some problems arising.
If the Jazz could somehow get Maggette without changing their roster too much, it'd be great. Their weakness this season has been at shooting guard, and acquiring Maggette should help considerably. Unfortunately, I don't think the Jazz have the pieces to put together a deal the Clippers would accept. The Jazz just wouldn't move Williams, Kirilenko, Boozer or Okur for him. They'd also be hesitant to move their younger players in Brewer or Millsap and to a lesser extent Miles. Fisher and Harpring are older players with larger contracts, that the Clippers would be reluctant to take on unless there was some other incentive for them. That leaves Giricek, Collins, Araujo, Dee Brown and Roger Powell. None of them would really be that appealing to the Clippers. So if a deal was to be made, the Jazz would almost have to include picks, and possibly take on a filler from the Clippers. The Jazz should make a move for Maggette if they have the chance though, a lineup of Williams, Maggette, Kirilenko, Boozer and Okur would be a nightmare to defend.
Well what we should do is wait for Brewer to develop. He's athletic as hell and I think he could make a good slashing SG. Maggette would be nice but like Stockton said, I don't want to mess up our core just to get him.
Is it just me or do you guys find it ridiculous that the analysis keep saying Denver is the 4th best in the West now but they can't compete with Spurs, Suns, and Mavs, teams we're 4-0 against this year. Utah plays just like the Spurs, with just as good as execution, but we can't compete with them anymore?

The last nba.com power rankings had Jazz behind Spurs and Phoenix. I emailed the guy asking why we were BEHIND those teams when we had the best record in the league at the time, and were 2-0 against Suns, 1-0 against Spurs, and 1-0 against Mavs. Hopefully he'll reply to mey next power rankings lol.

And the Jazz wants to contend starting now...We should just give him 20+ minutes a night, most of the minutes in 3rd period cuz we suck anyways in that quarter...and wait for Memo or D-Will to save us in the fourth quarter. But I agree, we don't want to mess up our core just to get Maggatte...he has a big contract though, we might be able to deal for some 1st round draft picks. If we do as well the rest of the year as right now, our 1st round pick is going to be pretty low anyways. We do HAVE to do something to COUNTER Denver getting A.I., that could be the whole difference between getting a 4th or 8th place in the Playoffs, plus screwing with the Homecourt advantage. The Jazz's homecourt advantage is huge, our arena was voted one of the most intimidating arena in the NBA by ESPN and players.

I'd hate to have to play the Nuggets, Suns, or Mavs @ their place to start off the playoffs with this young team. Utah doesn't have that one guy that could take over a game, I'm sure we could find a SG that could at least make that curl 18 footer. I hate it when we have Harpring misses all those shots or Fisher is too short to guard taller SG's. Then Giri off the bench can't defend a statue, Brewer can't shoot worth beans, and C.J. Miles can't play consistently. Our bench is weak too when Fisher starts because we go through long droughts where we can't buy a lay-up. Bench is just too weak without Fisher, we need a SG. I like when Brewer plays because he adds a great finisher on the break and plays D, I wish Sloan would realize that. I don't want to break up this team either, that's why I said Maggette trade with Giri, HOffa, maybe C.J., and 2 1st rounder or maybe 1 cuz we have that NY pick that is going to be good hopefully.

If we bring in a good SG, they could teach Brewer a lot, hell Brewer could compete with them for all I care.

So wait, what exactly is so good about Maggette? He's obviously not a shooter because you said Clippers are looking for a shooter. Slasher? Hmm Brewer could develop fast maybe. Dunno if Maggette is worth it.

But I suspect he's not at 100% right now, he's numbers right now are far from what they were when he was fully healthy, plus he's barely getting 22 minutes a game this season, and averaging 14.8 pts a game. But he's slowly getting back though, in his last 3 games, he's been averaging 19 points a game. When he's not injured, he can give you 40 minutes a night, 22 points, 6 rebs, 3 assists a game. But he's a lot more than what we have on our team right now. He's a very physical slasher, a very good free throw shooter, has a dependable jump shot, and will actually play some defense.
