<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Add another chapter to the story of Troy Murphy's up-and-down season.

The Warriors sent Murphy to Southern California on Wednesday to consult a foot specialist for his ailing left Achilles. Murphy is scheduled to see Dr. Richard Ferkel today in Van Nuys (Los Angeles County) and won't rejoin the Warriors until they return home following their road trip.

That means he will have missed at least eight games dating back to Dec. 12, when he said it was more of a team decision to rest his Achilles. Murphy missed three games in November with the original foot injury and the final third of the preseason with a broken nose -- all of which have left him struggling to find a place in Don Nelson's up-tempo system.

"For Troy, we envision him doing certain things in this style of play, in this system," general manager Rod Higgins said. "It's still early. You don't want to become too alarmed. With some guys, you have to take your time with the critiquing."

Murphy figured to thrive as a big man who could spread the floor with his shooting range, but that hasn't happened because of injuries and inconsistency. He's averaging 10.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, down from his 14-point, 10-rebound averages of a season ago, and often has sat during fourth quarters.

Though his name seems to come up annually in trade rumors -- with this season offering the Sixers and Bulls as possible destinations -- Higgins said the Warriors were still in evaluation mode.

"(Jason Richardson) has been out. Troy has been out. And those guys are key parts to our success. Ike (Diogu) has been out," he said. "Starting this season, nobody envisioned those guys not being there for the better part of this early season. That's why we have so many more games to go." </div>

I didn't think about this before, but could Nellie's system take a toll on the players, especially the heavier players? Of course, there were questions about some of the Warriors players being in top shape like Murphy and Foyle, but Murphy's is a type of injury one gets from running the floor and jumping. JRich was trying to come back from knee injury and surgery, so could the system could have been part of what caused him to get shelved again?

The second thought I have is more self-serving. We need Murphy back on the court so we can trade him. LOL.

Meh. If you can't run and jump in the NBA, then you don't belong in the NBA. I agree, getting him back healthy is most important so we can increase his trade value. I just don't ever seeing him fitting in well here. He's not the worst player, but we can do better for that kind of money if we can find some GM who likes his game.

Maybe they can send Murph to a defense specialist next. [IMG]

While I agree with REREM and others that Murph is a valuable player for certain roles, I think I like Ike a lot better. Despite critics saying he is not that good of a defender, at least he'll help out and he'll try to contest shots at the rim.

Plus, Ike pretty much has an outside and inside game and he's slightly quicker than Murphy moving laterally. The benefit of a guy like Ike at PF, is that he makes up for what Biedrins lacks: A legit inside game with post moves. No warrior on this entire team does this. I think a combo of Ike + Beans helps us greatly in scoring high % inside and doing the dirty work that big enforcers in the paint do. Plus, unlike Damp or Foyle, they have hands to catch the entry passes, they have brains for the game, and they are aggressive. While Biedrins may seem stupid with the foul trouble, he's actually pretty smart, just young and overly aggressive to make up for lack of strength against most centers. A defensive guy hates being scored on and our guards and perimeter guys are lousy at defense.

I just wonder when Nelson is going to go with and what is going on behind closed doors with the ike/nelson relationship:

    5 beans
    4 ike
    3 mp
    2 jrich
    1 baron

BArnes is wearing thin with me with his inconsistencies and i would like to see him join our own bench mob

    Ellis, dunelavy, muprhy, barnes, robo

and foyle/carbarkapa/mcleod for an occasional cameo when needed

If the big dudes can get experience and mature fast, a frontline of Ike and Beans could be a nice combo on both sides of the ball and inside the paint. They may not be allstars, but I think they can have star qualities on some matchups like where Biedrins outhustles the other guy or Ike powers the ball inside. They both can help out the team in ways that few Warriors could do for us in the past and right now.

Baron and Jrich is manageable backcourt IMO, but ideally we should look for new shooting guard like the Ray Allen/Manu Ginobilli type (tall, but can play the point at duty). You know, somebody that can work off the dribble some, shoot it well, and pass like a real point guard. The other option is to find a tall small forward that can handle the ball like a guard, maybe like a glue man like Boris Diaw or older Grant Hill or Tayshaun Prince. Julian Wright and Jeff Green are interesting upcoming "point forward" prospects, but if we're a lotto team again, I guess we have to pick whoever has the best combo of ceiling and floor (whatever position that may be).

We're pretty close, I think, but we've lacked a SG/SF "swingman" small forward for the longest time, either that, or we've lacked a true shooting guard to compliment the first real point guard we've had in a long time (Baron Davis). We've kind of got a small forward in Jrich (Coach Nelson agrees that whatever Jrich is it's not a shooting guard). But unless a 6'8 shooting guard that plays small forward defense comes around, it might be difficult to cross the two positions of shooting guard and small forward if it includes Jrich or Pietrus. Baron has to have somebody to protect him IMO in case he gets doubled and somebody needs to initiate like a second point guard.

Either way (new shooting guard or tall ballhandling /passing small forward) we need to find some roles for that position so that Nelson can have a reliable guy who can operate as a second point guard on the floor next to Baron. If Nelson said that Dunleavy is a power forward, what he really means is he's too slow for small forward, not that he is actually a power forward. For a while Dun was considered the only secondary setup guy on the team. Kind of bad [IMG]

I hope Nelson will play a big part in assembling next year's or any possible opportunites at all-star break. Nelson has to have the last word on any deals IMO, because I think he has more experience in general management and coaching to know what will work in this league (compared to Mullin and his friends). Had Nelson arrived sooner I think he could have found us some underrated vets to go with Mullin's good drafts.
