That's really a song that you have to be in the mood for, and I'm just not in the mood for it. Marvin had an amazing voice, a very sensual, soothing one at least, but the music on a lot of his tracks sounds trite and overdone. Hot Chip actually has a cool remix of this song, btw.

Actually, I was just searching Youtube, hence the "YT." It's all good though.

    Iris - A

This is the one Goo Goo Dolls song I like unconditionally. It just brings me back to a simpler time in my life (I think junior high or so), when this was my favorite song. A lot of popular music in the 90's was tolerable. Today... not so much...

    New Song:

Peter, Bjorn, and John - Young Folks

(I think Sasha rec'ed this before, but YouTube's impossible to find anything on these days, so here it is again)

B- This was a pretty good song, I like it but as it went on, just started getting boring. The voices are just too similiar in tone and never really change. It's like a monotone with the voices and it just makes you want to go to sleep. Sorry, but I just dont' like this kind of music.

I absolutely can't stand this song from AC/DC. It is cheesy and just feels like there's nothing new about it because the band hasn't had any good ideas in a very long time. I actually prefer all of their stuff when Bon Scott was at vocals. Too bad he passed on long ago.

New song is from Venus - Million Miles Away

I actually made this video using some pictures I took from France. The song is very atmospheric and would better suit you if you were to listen with great headphones or using surround sound speakers. I love the musical saw used with synth to make it feel like ghosts. Something you can just lay down and relax to or make you think.

That was beautiful. The music had a creepy feel to it, somewhat supernatural. The pictures were pretty damn good, too.

When I was younger, that song scared me. I had heard it was about watching a guy die or drown and having Phil Collins' head floating around was creepy too. It is a good pump up song though that is used in a lot of stadiums across the country.

    B-

That's my least favorite Deep Purple song. They were an amazing band, but that song is just overplayed and a poor representation of the kind of music the band was writing.

If you like that riff so much, pick up a guitar. It's probably the easiest riff out there to play. It's the one song that all beginners learn how to play before anything else. Maybe that's what turns me off to this song. I can remember being about eight or nine years old and playing this song note for note in my room with my friends.

With that being said, it's still Deep Purple, and almost anything from them is great.

Yeah, I've heard that before. If you look at the Youtube comments, everyone says the same thing. I don't know why but I've always loved the sound of it, even if it is easy for people to play.

I know that's a bad reason to not like a song, but it did alter my perception. That's about the only song I played between the ages of eight and twelve or so, when I got really serious about guitar, and so it's always just seemed like a juvenile song to me.

    While we're on classic rock...

I really liked that one. I'm in a rock mood right now so I'm loving all of this stuff. The guitar in that song was obviously sick because it's Jimi Hendrix. Good song. You guys definitely all know your rock.

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (I don't know if its already been posted but I love this song. I've heard everything when it comes to this song from it's the greatest song ever to it's overrated. I'm curious to see what you guys think.)

Yeah, I always thought it was his most underrated song from a technical standpoint. It took me the longest time to learn how to play it. I used to always say to myself, "There's no way he's the only one playing guitar on that song. It sounds like there are two other guys."

Smells Like Teen Spirit - B

One thing that I love about Nirvana is how the ended the attrocious hair metal era that rock was experiencing. I don't know how many people on this forum are old enough to remember that, but it almost worse than the emo craze going on today.

Nirvana was overrated as hell though, especially this song. Cobain was a horrible singer and almost just as bad of a guitar player. It seems like you have an infinity for the most notoriously simple riffs, Swish, lol. One thing about Cobain that I respect though is his talent as a song writer. He was like the Bob Dylan of early 90's grunge.

Yeah, I fall in love with the easiest riffs. [IMG] I think it's because they are the types of riffs that get stuck in my head and that I hear a lot. I love the song Iron Man by Black Sabbath and that seems pretty simple as well. I'm learning to play guitar this summer so I'm sure my tastes will change as I see how difficult some of these riffs are and my respect will grow for people like Jimi Hendrix.

Nothing's wrong with simplicity. In fact, I really appreciate simplicity in music. I'm just sick of certain simple riffs like Smoke on the Water, Smells Like Teen Spirit, etc. because those were the songs I played a million times as a kid until I just got so sick of them I didn't want to listen to them anymore.

Oh yeah, and good luck with the guitar. Once you get comfortable with it, there's not a better feeling in the world. Just don't give up too easy. It's really hard and frustrating at the start, because you want to be able to just pick it up and play it like a veteran but are stuck doing stupid finger exercises, but with patience it can be very rewarding.

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm guessing Back in Black by AC/DC is another example of this? [IMG]

Some of Syd's finest work. It reminds me so much of the Star Gate sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey. As if it was written just for that moment in time. Good pick.

I've never played it actually. I'm not a big AC/DC fan.

Off the top of my head, those songs I played with easy riffs were Smoke on the Water, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come as You Are (Nirvana), Whole Lotta Love (Led Zepplin), Iron Man (Black Sabbath), Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix), and Alive (Pearl Jam). Check out those once you've gotten the basics down.

Yeah, out of the seven songs you named, five of them are favorites of mine (Come As You Are, Purple Haze, and Iron Man being the other three). I guess it's not gonna be too long before I'm playing my favorite songs! Haha, I have heard from like everyone I know that it takes a ton of patience but I figure if people that are a lot dumber than I am have learned to play it, then I can figure it out too.
