Jeff McInnis isn't even playing for the Nets. Rick Bonnell, Bobcat beat writer, suggests that with Nenad Krstic out, it may be time to trade Ely for McInnis and a lottery-protected first rounder. Bernie Bickerstaff says when people call, he answers, but otherwise had no comment. Meanwhile, a Heat writer suggests a blockbuster trade involving Vince Carter might work in the Nets' favor.</div>

Ely isn't worth a first round pick that could be in the lottery. Next year's draft will be one of the best and we must get a good pick to get a good big man in the draft.

We should sign Randolph Morris after the college season is over imo.

Morris is ok, but I saw him against Louisville and he got a couple quick fouls and got totally out played by Padgett.

Yea his problem is picking up touch fouls, but he can defend, rebound, and has good low post moves with a decent mid range jumper. This is basically what Collins is except collins cant defend and picks up dumb touch fouls. I just dont think we will be able to pick up a good big man in the draft, but i may be wrong.

If we're lottery bound like so far, no don't trade the first rounder.

Even if NJ had the best record,= there's no way he should be traded for a first rounder. He's not even getting burn in Charlotte, why trade a first rounder?

Well I think that's a bit unfair to say. The Bobcats are frontcourt heavy. Melvin was a lottery pick when he was drafted for a reason. He was certainly a force for Fresno State and is still young. Right now, the Bobcats have Emeka and Primoz Brezec starting at the F/C with Sean May being the primary frontcourt off the bench. When Sean May was out, Melvin gets his fair share of points and rebounds off the bench. I think he had like 13/4 last game when Sean May sat out. So he has game, just that May and Emeka have better ones and Primoz can step out to the perimeter to open up the post for May and Emeka.

If we had a late midround to late first, then yeah, trade the pick. But right now we're looking at the bottom of the lottery of what certainly will be a deep draft with a lot of frontcourt talent. In which we can get Al Horford, Tyler Hansbrough. and maybe even Brandon Wright.. Julian Wright wouldn't be bad either if we're trying to imitate the Suns.

Well, the article DOES say "lottery-protected" first round pick, so if we can pull the trade off and STILL tank, we'll still have the pick. I'm not sure if we should trade the pick. I admit, I don't follow college b-ball that much and I don't really know too much players right now, so I have no idea if we have a shot at a good big man in the mid-1st round. If there are no good big men there, we should make this trade happen. Ely can rebound and block shots, he's tough in the paint and he can score under that basket. Plus, he doesn't have Butterfingers ™ like Twin.

This draft, if the big names pull out, will be a deep draft like 03. Hansbrough is projected lottery right now, but I bet he will fall. I'm sure the draft measurements will say 6-7 and that he's average in athleticism so he's too small to play PF in the league..But that's just false. Guy is hard working and has too much game to not be a good player. In my opinion he can be Zach Randolph without all the off court attitude problems. More effort on defense too.

There's a reason why Melvin Ely is picking splinters out his butt for the worst team in the league. You don't trade a 1st round pick for a player of Ely's caliber.
