If we give him a buyout, does his contract still effect us after this season? If so, then bullsh*t. Let him play out the remainder of this season, and if he really wants to go elsewhere then let him opt out of his contract. No big deal. It's not like we're going anywhere this season anyways.
<div class="quote_poster">Answer_AI03 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">trade him for eddie jones expiring contract.</div> True..that's a pretty damn good idea. Plus you got Joe Smith's contract coming off the books, that's a alot of cap space.
I wonder if any team would sign Webber if the 76ers buy him out. Brian, as for your question, his salary would effect the 76ers, but not for the full amount. IIRC in a buyout the cap hit is the average of the years left on a player's current deal and the amount the team ends up buying him out for. For example, if Philly paid him $12Million in a buyout, then next year Philly would only be responsible for $6Million of Webber's salary.
I see. Thanks for the clear up Shape. Anyways, seeing how "frustrated" Webber is, I think it would be best to keep him in the Sixer's uniform. Let him play for us until the end of the season, and if he's really that frustrated, and if he really wants to win as much as he says he does, he will opt out.
<div class="quote_poster">Answer_AI03 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">trade him for eddie jones expiring contract.</div> Unlikely due to Memphis' ownership situation. Even if it was stable, the trade would not benefit the Grizzlies as next years free agent group is deep and adding an aging veteran PF is not what they need to help the teams immediate future.
<div class="quote_poster">shapecity Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I wonder if any team would sign Webber if the 76ers buy him out.</div> I would guess the Nets, the Suns, Minnesota, maybe Miami (just because they are sluggish atm), maybe Houston (now that Yao is out), maybe Lakers (if Kwame struggles or injuries or they make a trade), and maybe a couple other teams.
Maybe they could throw in louis williams or shavlick randolph, and trade c-webb for jones?? in NBA 2k7 memphis excepted the trade straight up....haha
<div class="quote_poster">shapecity Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I wonder if any team would sign Webber if the 76ers buy him out. </div> The Bulls are reported interested in pursuing him if he is bought out. He is still a good player, especially at his age and all the surgeries he has had. What turns people off from him is his contract, take that variable away and a expect at least half a dozen teams to go after him.
My guess would be that the Bulls and the Nets would be the two teams knocking on Webber's door if a buyout were to occur. The Nets can really use someone in the post while Nenad Krstic is down. Reflecting on what GameFace said, Webber is old but he still can give you 20 and 10 on any given night.
