Basketball is part of Hip Hop and Hip Hop is part of basketball especially in America. They are intertwined through the people that play the game everywhere in the States not just the NBA. NY is considered the center of Hip Hop and the center of basketball and many artists and players grew up together so it is only natural that they would live a similar lifestyle and wear similar things.

Who are some real hiphop artists that should perform? Can you name some artists/songs you think would be more appropriate?

Also, what are some examples of how the NBA jumped on hip-hop to improve its sales?</div>
If that's the case, get somebody like Paul Wall or Chamillionaire. But a 6'5 rappin cowboy nobody's heard of[IMG] Is that what corporate america wants hiphop to look like? There are literally TONS of ppl they could get to preform.

And what are Paul Wall and Chamillionaire going to sing? "You Don't Know" and "Ridin' Dirty"? First song's about how Texas is the home of 'playas and pimps' and the second is about racial profiling. You won't see the NFL have someone perform that type of song, the MLB wouldn't, neither would the NHL. We're talking about a sporting event here, not the damn BET Awards.

Paul Wall and Chamillionaire? You've got to be kidding.

Yes. Let's hear some tracks about grills and purple drank. That's great for the fans. Their music does not represent or endorse positive things, let's just leave it at that.

Does Fergie from the Black Eye Peas represent a positive image? Does Christina Agulierra represent a positive image to young females? Or maybe Brittany Spears? What's the difference between grills & singing about extreme sexual acts? Nothin!! Thats pretty much sums up my point. Hiphop GETS HELD TO A TOTALLY DIFFERENT STANDARD. But yet, they'll quickly get Christina Agulierra before they get any hiphop artist.

[IMG] U guys are so judgemental....Both Chamillionaire and Paul Wall have a long list of songs they could perfom. Ur singling out 1 or 2 songs and makin it seem like that's all they got. Obcourse Madonna wouldn't get up there and perfom "Like a Virgin" at the superbowl. Does that mean she can't perform, use ur brain.

lol Rock4Life is kind of right. No ones wants to hear no cowboy up there sing no country song (no offense) that no one has heard of. People like Jay Z or Slim Thug could do a song or something which isn't necessarily about drugs/sex/womens and stuff.

Rock4Life, maybe the artists (and I use this term loosely), weren't interested in performing at halftime. Anyone who performs at these shows has to pay A LOT of money to the TV Networks for the exposure.

One thing I could say to that is that maybe Christina, BEP, and Britney hold alot more crossover appeal than other said artists. I'm not convinced that the league is moving away from hip hop... however, I will say that I do think NBA players are too quick to be labeled as thugs, when hockey players, soccer players do alot worse.

Well.... you got me there. Mainstream music just SUCKS in general. That is why my favorite genre is alternative/underground hip hop. I listen to other stuff as well.

Although, like mentioned above, there are certain mainstream rappers who would be a MUCH better selection than Paul Wall and Chamillionaire. And many mainstream artists of other genres, like rock or pop, that would be better than Britney Spears or anyone as untalented as her. So yeah. But is halftime show music the only thing you are talking about? I mean, with all the fuss you are making about it I thought you would have something else as well.
