Arenas On Kobe: "My Numbers Are Blowing His Out Of The Water"

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Gilbert Arenas has been putting up a lot of points this season and feels that his numbers compare well to Kobe Bryant's.

"I'm glad what I'm doing is on national television so they can finally see what I did in the past; my 29 [points per game last season] is not a fluke. What I did in the playoffs is not a fluke. What I've done the last five years is not a fluke," Arenas said. "Everybody says, 'Oh, he's not better than this person, he's not better than that person.' But if you go year by year, number-wise, what's the difference between me and Kobe? He had Shaq. He got three rings. Other than that, my numbers are blowing his out of the water the first six years in the league."</div>

Deceptive quote. He didn't say "my numbers are blowing his out of the water" when refering to Kobe.

He said "my numbers are blowing his out of the water the first six years in the league.""

The other day he was saying good things. Looks like Gilbert maybe pissed at Kobe.

Then again, Arenas entered the league after a couple college years under his belt.

It was rather "cute" of him to leave out the fact that Kobe came straight out of Highschool. He needs to relax. His PER isn't blowing him out of the water either way.

I thought Arenas' comments back at first were really classy and I thought he handled the situation really well after Kobe called him out. But now he's started to get annoying and my respect for him is dropping.

I think he is saying this more because of the lack of respect he gets, than a shot at Kobe, he is comparing himself to the guy he feels is the best in the game today.

You guys are acting like he just randomly made this comment. Reporters and interviewers ask him questions to get these kind of answers from him. Arenas isn't the type of guy to give a half-ass reply or beat around the bush, he tells it straight up.

I dont think its all about numbers, if Kobe never had Shaq his numbers would most likely be alot higher, but maybe he would have never won those three rings. Kobe's numbers are still better, he is still the better player, gilbert is an amazing player but he has to undertand that kobe is much greater.

Gilbert is my favorite player, but he is really annoying now. He "forgot" to mention that Kobe came straight out of HS, he "forgot" to mention that Kobe wasn't a main option on his team his first couple of years.

He needs to drop this him against the world act. He needs to shut up and play, he'll get recognized.

I understand what Arenas is talking about, it all depends on how you take it. He said the other day Kobe is the best player in the league, I just think he feels as if he should have a little more respect and he should be in the same category as superstar players like Kobe.

How could some of you find this statement annoying, but Kobe's words for Arenas amazing game completely normal?? [IMG]

Well first, a lot of people were bothered by the comments Byant made (but at least Kobe was talking only about a single game, whereas Arenas was referring to a six year span which is worse imo). However, Bryant addressed the comments in his Stephen A. interview. Either way, what Arenas said was stupid.

I agree what Arenas said was stupid, I see what your saying but still I mean, atleast he didnt say Kobe has no conscious and make him feel bad after he played one of his best games he just said he feels hes on the same level. But w.e..that situation isn't that big a deal.

I dont want to start a Kobe bashing thread because I respect Kobe I think hes the best player in the league. But for example comments like the one he directed towards Arenas is the reason why people hate Kobe so much.. I can't even imagine any other superstar saying a player has no conscious after he just beat you and dropped 60..

Arenas having "no conscious" was not the issue, the FTs were (if you observe what he says again). Which he shouldn't have had a problem with but I don't see the big commotion though, because many players complain about the Refs. He already reiterated "I'm not trying to shadowbox your 60." and such.

^So because Kobe went on Smith's show and back-tracked on his blatantly stupid comments it's alright? One stupid comment deserves another, and Arenas is just giving Kobe a little payback. I respect him for not just backing down like a ***** and letting Kobe get away with that cheapshot comment.

Well, back track or not, the original comment was trivial. Arenas said something more ignorant imo because it addresses a body of work, whereas Kobe was upset about FTs. Also, haven't you defended VC for his comments in the past? Right...

its really not that complicated, kobe said something that was a bit dumb and so did Gil, and two wrongs dont make a right, like someone said before this whole thing is so trivial, and i dont think that backing down from a stupid comment like kobe's makes you a "little Bitch" its the more mature thing to do, to just walk away and ignore what the other person said, you need to grow up.
