Hardly! <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Zackman)</div><div class='quotemain'>Martz is certainly a winner and in McCown's 22 starts in Arizonia he went 10-12! Martz was leading the Rams back into the mediocrity they ascended from prior to '99. Speaking of mediocre, 10-12 comes to roughly 7 wins over the course of a full NFL season. Again, really not impressive.

When a young QB like McCown steps in and puts up a .454 winning percentage in 22 starts for the NFL's All-Time doormat team it IS impressive. It's why so many sports writers agree with me on the McCown/Martz possibilities.
Initially, I thought you were talking about Stats for the Lions. I hope Detroit would have higher expectations than that. You are right; AZ is pathetic. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Zackman)</div><div class='quotemain'><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (blackadder)</div><div class='quotemain'>30-66 averaged out over 5 yrs comes to 5-11. isnt it kind of sad that Detriot has been so bad the last few years that people are excited about Josh McCown. lol that just says something right there

Add that to the fact that Joey Harrington is being run out of town and we're giddy!
Josh is one of my heroes! He converted another big 4th down play that was over shadowed by "4th and 26" later on that year. I think it was 4th and 25 when McCown heaved that toss into the endzone for Nate Poole sending the Packers into the Playoffs. I hope he does well even though I think John Kitna will end up the starter. However You know if McCown does win the Job I say Kitna may ask to be cut and may end up back with Cincy depending on what kind of deal he signed.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (FLORIDA PACKER)</div><div class='quotemain'>However You know if McCown does win the Job I say Kitna may ask to be cut and may end up back with Cincy depending on what kind of deal he signed.</div> i dont think so i think Kitna knew going into the Lions job that he was going to have to compete for the job with someone, i think he'll try his best and sit if he is asked to sit, hes a respectable guy, and why would he ask to be cut if he backs up McCown. Would you rather backup McCown or Carson Palmer. Hmmm toughy
Very very true, And you never know with Detroit they may have a QB Carosouel going on over there next season.

Right now, they're saying all the right stuff. <u>Both Kitna and McCown are extremely religious and insist there'll be no back stabbing or bitterness. Both assured that their deep Christian beliefs will not allow it. </u> But each is certain this is his best chance to start again in the NFL. And one will be shot down hard. "I don't think either one of us will be," McCown maintained. "Just knowing the kind of person he is and knowing who I am and what our faith is, I don't think either one of us will be that way. I think that we both have the same goal in mind, which is to lead this team to a championship and to win football games. "And so, if he does that, then I'll be excited for our team. We lost for four years in Arizona, and I want to win. I want to be a part of a championship. I want to go to the playoffs. Absolutely, do I want to be on the fi eld? Yes, and I'm going to compete my tail off. But at the end of the day, if Jon's the guy, I'm not going to be bitter about it. I'm going to root Jon on like crazy to go out and win football games."
Another writer agrees McCown has huge upside potential. <u>Clark Judge: McCown under-the-radar</u> In his free agency scorecard column on CBS SportsLine, Clark Judge has Josh McCown listed on the "under the radar" signings. Here's what he has to say. March 31, CBS SportsLine: 3. Josh McCown, Detroit: Jon Kitna is the frontrunner for the starter's job here, and he should be. He has experience. He has won. Plus, he has the right demeanor for this situation. But McCown could be a steal. He's young and talented and should thrive under the tutelage of Mike Martz. McCown completed 70 percent of his passes in his two games indoors last year, and that's good. So is his 10-12 record as a starter with a dreadful franchise. He said he wanted to go where he could start, and give him time. It could happen here.
