<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">President of Basketball Operations Jerry West announced today that Mike Fratello has been relieved of his head coaching duties. Fratello led Memphis to a 95-83 record after he was hired on December 2, 2004 as the Grizzlies? seventh head coach in team history. He led the Grizzlies to two postseason appearances, and became the franchise?s all-time winningest head coach in April. This season, Fratello led the Grizzlies to a 6-24 record. </div> http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...fratello_fired/ Wow, I didn't expect Fratello to get fired, despite the Grizzlies' bad record. After all, Gasol is missing.

Well, for the Grizzlies sake, thats good news. I wonder who will pick him up. He's a great coach but, obviously din't fit in with the Grizzlies.

He's been a loser ever since his days with the Cavs. His slow-paced offense working out of the four isn't a smart attack in today's game, especially when your team is full of athletic wings. This can only mean good things for the Grizzlies. As for the replacement coach, an announcement will be made tomorrow at 11:00 A.M. central time by Jerry West addressing the matter. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Larry Brown?</div> God, I hope not. The last thing this team needs is another self absorbed disciplinarian like Hubie Brown or Mike Fratello, especially with the new youth-based direction the franchise is going in. The college season is in full swing, so it's not going to be a college coach. Maybe assistant coach Lionel Hollins will take over. He's been an interim coach before and was pretty successful at it. If I had to guess, I'd say that Hollins will take over until the end of the season, at which time the Grizzlies will find a long-term replacement.

His claim to fame is that he's been the Grizzlies' draft talent evaluator these past few years. Just look at what he left the Lakers with ... Mitch Kupchak.

He's had a far more instrumental role with the organization ever since Knight left and West came to the helm. I give full credit to Billy Knight for the Hawks trade, especially if you're talking about the other players the Grizzlies acquired through the deal, like Wright, Person, and Knight, who were all bargained for by Knight. Besides, even if you want to believe that Barone had something to do with that move, his job is to evaluate talent, and every year since he has made horrible evaluations. I mean, Robert Archibald over Carlos Boozer? That's inexcusable.
