<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">MIAMI -- Vince Carter is paying attention now, a sure sign that the Nets' losses and everything being written and said about this disappointing season may be getting to him.

Normally, Carter is oblivious to the crowd or other things around him. Yet, unsolicited, Carter said he heard the boos at Continental Arena during Wednesday's 25-point loss to Houston. Two weeks ago in Toronto, he said he didn't pay attention to an entire arena chanting, "Carter [stinks]!"

Carter also knows his heart and desire are being questioned for the first time in New Jersey -- a daily occurrence in Toronto.

"You just have to keep fighting, keep playing, regardless, through the boos, through what people have to say," Carter said. "You can't sit out there and listen. We have a job to do out there on the court and we're not getting it done."

Carter was the most outspoken after the Nets' fourth straight defeat that dropped them to 11-18. There were times it sounded as if Carter was talking about himself.

After seeming disinterested at Milwaukee on Saturday, there were questions about whether Carter was playing motivated. Following Wednesday's game, Carter used some form of the word motivate three times.

He also gave an indicting statement about the veteran-laden Nets, who face the defending champion Heat tonight.

"I think right now," Carter said, "we're not capable of finding a way to win or not able to or don't know how to or something."

When will the Nets show, consistently, that they want to win?

"Right now, we're in a bad way," said Jason Kidd, who agreed with Carter's claim that they don't know how to win. "But this will test our character to see where we are as a team, and individually."

Carter has been scrutinized the most because he's been so inconsistent. Four times in December he's scored at least 36 points and four times he's had 12 or less -- in the last two weeks.</div>

There's not much I can say that hasn't been said. Carter isn't playing well, and is it possible that he and another player are having personal problems? I mean, there have been numerous reports of problems in the locker room. This could be affecting Carter because like I said before, he has been looking really upset on the court. He needs to brush it off.

I think it's has to do with Vince's off court problems with his divorce. Maybe they are fighting for the custody of the child or something similar. Vince needs to step up and forget about all of his problems and start to think about basketball right now.

His offcourt problems are not supposed to be part his game. Unless if he wants to end up like McGrady, as Magic Johson said the basketball court is a place to escape ad you still should play your game.

Exactly. I want for Vince to have his mind on the game, but his play is starting to become inconsistent.

The Nets are falling apart, its not Vince's fault. They should start from scratch like the Sixers are doing.

Our team is fine. All we need is a big man and it looks like Mikki Moore is filling that role for now.

The nets are behind the Knicks and Raptors in thier division. That team is not fine, unless the get a streak going i dont see the nets in the playoffs, they will be lucky to make the playoffs. With the way they are playing now, it looks like they are falling apart, The Big 3 cannot last, they need to trade and rebuild. You can't say they are fine..

Well, they are fine. We are on a 2 game win streak. Mikki Moore has been showing postive sides against on of the greatest power forwards of all time. (Garnett) Plus we are tied with the Raptors for first in the Atlantic division.

I don't think it's time to start from scratch like Philly. However I think the Nets need to make a deal at the trade deadline to get a strong, scoring, big man.

As far as Vince is concerned, hopefully the All Star break gives him some time off to have some fun and get his confidence back. I think it has something to do with what's going on off the court but he needs to focus on basketball and use the court as a place to get away from everything else.
