Eid Mubarak to all my Muslim friends here on JBB. Eid Mubarak means "Happy Eid"

To those who don't know about EID:
Muslims celebrate Eid twice in a year, its kind of like Christmas where we go to prayer in the morning then exchange presents and hang out with family/friends the rest of the day.

There are two different types of EID's.

    1. Eid-ul-Fitr: We celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr after Ramadan (month of fasting). A usual day would be waking up for prayer and going to visit family where you exchange gifts, give/receive money and such.

    2. Eid-Ul-Adha: Eid ul-Adha is celebrated by Muslims worldwide as a commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael for Allah(god). Others celebrate Eid ul-Adha as it marks the end of the Pilgrimage or Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca) for the millions of Muslims who make the trip to Mecca each year. On this day, we sacrifice an animal. In USA, we can't do that on the streets or anything so we just end up buying meat from a Halal meat store.

Back when we lived in Pakistan, we'd go out and buy a goat/cow a month earlier and sacrifice it ourselves on the streets. My uncles used to do that with my dad. Most people who don't know how to sacrifice the proper way hire someone to do it for them. Countries that are connected to Islam closely have people sacrifise animals on the street and such. Its one fun day.

We will be celebrating Eid-Ul-Adha either Saturday or Sunday. Its always like this, some groups of people do it a different day for their own reasons. It pisses me off. Anways, thats some info for you. If you want to read more about it.

    Go here: Eid-Ul-Fitr, Eid-Ul-Adha

Thought I'd make up a thread for this wishing friends Eid Mubarak (means Happy Eid) and to inform Non-Muslims about our religion.

Sacrifice. Its not like we "torture and murder them" ...
The food you eat is from killed cows and goats, a better term would be sacrifice [IMG]

Yeah, but you said on the streets, so do you go out in the streets with a machete and do it execution style?

Oh, its the same way it would normally be done. Cut in the throat and all. Its hard to explain, I only remember it from back when I was like 9.

The other animal sacrificed is Sheep.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, some people that are richer also sacrifice Camels.

The animals sacrificed were generally used to feed the less fortunate, that's the norm even now. Eid Mubarak to you guys as well. It's not a ritualistic, pentagram, knives-in-the-air "LALALALA", more-so something you do for the goodness of others. I can't say much more, I've never done it.

Eid Mubarak Bros. Depending on the moon sighting it's either Saturday or Sunday. It's Sunday for us here.

Yeah...it's not like we run out with big butcher knives and look for goats and sheep. The sheep or goat we sacrifice we give it out to the poor and distribute it within family and friends.
