Recently, I've begun to listen to some classical music, and man is that stuff great. Sure makes you realize how bad much of the music today is, especially in rap and R&B is; it's all repetition of the same thing all throughout the song (and they don't even make the music themselves, they steal it from other artists).

Kinda strayed from the topic there... but anyway, anybody else listen to classical music?

I do, I listen to it as often as possible with even variations of classic into more modern instrumentation. It is what I build much of my current interest of music off of where as I really tend to be annoyed by anything that is repetitive and drags on and on. In town here where I'm staying they actually have a shop that has nothing but classical music and variations. Though at high prices for a lot of their items they have stuff I've never even heard of before, which is quite amazing and well worth. Good thread, though I don't think you'll have much replies of kind words in return except mine very few others.

If you want a modern classical feel that is an orchestrated piece blended with modern instrument I highly suggest taking a listen to Venus' "The Man Who Was Already Dead." Here a portion of the article I wrote for them explaining the record.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">During the fall the band gave composer Renaud Lhoest permission to re-orchestrate their songs, which further positioned themselved further away from the rock scene into something untouchable in originality. Set between John Barry and the Jewish Folkore along with the full Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, the band were set to play a sold-out show in Brussels. Recorded live and created into the stunning The Man Who Was Already Dead, this ended up being one of their more popular albums which expressed the true beauty of their music collectively into orchestra and modern instrument.</div>

Definitely. I'm personally a huge George Gershwin fan. I've always thought he was the most brilliant composer of this past century. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is another great.

Mostly I prefer composers from the Romantic era though, like Mendelssohn, Berlioz, and Wagner.

And yes, hip-hop is trash. [IMG]

I've actually started listening to Mozart and Tchiavosky (sp?) not too long ago. I've really been into classical anthems.

Anyone recommend some more good (classical) music?

Ludwig van Beethoven is a typically known artist, but his work is genius. I highly recommend it.

I'd like to recommend to you all, a really great and well known armenian composer named Aram Khachaturian.

    Here's a link for some further information about the man;

If you'd like to hear a small piece of his most famous work, click on this website and it automatically plays it for you. http://www.khachaturian.am/

I recommend Yann Tiersen, he's done the Am?lie Original Soundtrack, and Good Bye Lenin! Original Soundtrack, as well as his own work. I only have stuff from these movies, but what I have -- I love. Great work, different in their own rights, but amazing.

My rec's: Summer '78 and La Valse D'Amelie

I do like classical music, I never admit it to anyone but I have a decent amount on my Ipod.

My favourite piece would be Pachebel Cannon in D Major.

I also like The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky

    Lacrimosa is haunting too.

I recommend to anyone who's new to classical music to listen to Mozart's piano concertos (my favorites are No. 20 [D-minor] and No. 23 [A-major]). That music is about as perfect as it gets.

I think I have a Mozart and Beethoven cd, the only song I know is moonlight sonata. I can only listen to classical music for limited stretches of time, and it depends on the songs.

The best "classical" song i've heard is Lux Aeterna from Requiem For A Dream.

That's actually just basic French style music. Awesome album though, even better film. I have both. [IMG]

When I played the piano I listen/played a ton of classical music.

One of my favorites is the generic Fur Elise. Probably because it took so long for me to master. Also Funeral March and Nocturne in G Minor by Chopin.

Ecossaises in E Flat is also good... Beethoven.

Well I can play Bouree In E Minor by Bach on the guitar, and some of Fur Elise. It sounds pretty rad.
