Sounds like maybe Magette is still being shopped. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Baylor said the Clippers are still looking at other possible deals.</div> Now that's kind of a general statement, but in this case it sounds to me like it means a bit more, like they are actively looking. I still think Dun's contract makes that deal unlikely, but what about Murphy? He's not great, but it seems to me he'd make a much better backup to Brand off the bench than either Tim Thomas or James Singleton do. He's a better backup center to Kaman than Aaron Williams is, too. And, their salaries are close enough for a 1-for-1 swap.
Clips fans may hate this one, but check this out: Corey Maggette, Tim Thomas, Aaron Williams for Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy Jr. The draft rights to Kosta Perovic

<div class="quote_poster">HiRez Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Wow, that trade actually works...amazing. I'd do that in a second.</div> Well we would, but the Clippers fans or Dunleavy Sr... I don't know what they'd think. It would help the 3-point shooting situation over there and maybe give Dunleavy Sr. a few things he desires like versatility + guys who can play more team ball. But with those two softies we're dealing them we'd take away the Clippers' ability to play defensively. They'd probably play one softie at a time and sit the other if they knew what was good for them. Clippers and W's have struggled shooting the ball (esp on the road), but they don't have the same defensive problems that we do. At least on paper the Kaman, Brand lineup beats our Biedrins, Dun/Murphy/Pietrus lineup. And for guards, I guess we can say Cassell could match Baron when healthy and so can Jrich and Mobley (one has more strength and length, the other has more quickness and shooting touch), but we can't underestimate the old/slow or short/quick guy backcourt. They've got some good shooting talent and most importantly they have strong nerves, playoff or championship experience with good free throw shooting ability. They won't choke in a close game like our guys might. I think Dun and Thomas could be a wash on defense. But Maggette is way better than Dun. Thomas and Mags are all better inside players/defenders than Murphy. The beauty of it is if the Clips actually did this trade, we'd get more athletic, more potent offensively in the 1 v 1 game, and we'd have a few players we could move around in the lineup. Plus, they're all short contracts except for Tim Thomas'. We had a problem finding a quick power forward mismatch, well Tim Thomas could operate some at this position for a couple of minutes while Ike operates the rest. Aaron Williams could also do some dirty work here. It won't be that good defensively, but I think Mags could do a decent job defending small forwards or some shooting guards. We'd certainly have more players that can create their own offense and get to the foul line. The only contract I don't like is Tim Thomas', but it's an upgrade if we get Mags and dump two contracts like Dun and Murph and get more athletic overall. Like I said, I doubt it would happen. If it did, a guy like the owner of the clips might not want a lot of guaranteed deals on his hands because he's notoriously cheap. But in this case for good reason if he's getting overpaid players like these.
It's sounding like the Clips are anxious to move Maggette in large part because they don't feel he's trying on D. Tim T's career has had ups and downs related to effort-coachability. Clip's ownership tends toward cheap. Add in that Dun Jr playing for Daddy can be a complication, and I'd wonder if the Clips would do this.

If the Warriors have any opportunity to unload a couple of their terrible contracts (and they are terrible, make no mistake about it), they should jump on it. But, it's a pipe dream for now.

But, it's a pipe dream for now.</div> I thought Maggette would be a real good pickup---however Clips fans appear to see him as a "sometimes" defender and a black-hole-low BB IQ- chucker/ballhog. I have little respect for Dun as a player overall. You all know by now-I'm pro-Murphy. The thought that Dun winds up playing big mimutes at PF ,and is even the Smallball backup C-just makes me barf.
And I thought Musselman and Montgomery's lineups were absurd at times: We had Claxton, NVE, Jrich, Calbert Cheaney, Cliff with Damp/Cardinal/Dunleavy as only big men. Okay so we can see where this is going since no Foyle and no Murph as backup big men and nobody who can emulate a real shooting guard to make plays off the dribble. Muss hates Pietrus and all other rookies. Can't forgive for the miserable 20 point blown lead against the Raps and 2 point 4th quarter where he took out the only guy who managed to score 2 points in that quarter (Erick Dampier who was our only inside presence). A smart x's and o'x coach, but dumbed down his offense for the sake of the team. Stubborn with his matchups! With Mike Montgomery we had: Baron, Derek Fisher, Jrich, Dunleavy, Murphy with only Ike playing center and not PF. Montgomery would willingly use undersized shooting guards and Cheaney at PF on some matchups, along with Dun at PF and Murphy/Ike at center. Montgomery hates Pietrus, Biedrins and all other rookies simply rot on the bench because in his stubborn mind they're not ready or some other excuse like it affects their mental game with too much pressure (which was more or less true at the time with constant foul trouble and having bad habits and guys looking lost). Went with poor closing game matchups and ineffective role players. Stubborn! The only one who benefitted from this system was Jrich. Cut backdoor, open J. 45% shot. Doesn't have to worry about putting the ball on the floor. Chemistry guys could find him in the shot, but those same guys couldn't do jack to nail anything themselves when they got the ball back. What's worse was Fisher was pretty much the same guy Jrich was going to be, another guard that needed another person to set him up at offense. Thus Dun probably had to be the point forward... groan... and since Ike/Foyle wasn't showing anything on the glass we put in proven rebounder Murphy in there instead. We lost inside scoring, shotblocking, and basically settled for more threes and played less defense than usual than if we had Clif and Dampier inside. A rotation couldn't be settled upon because Dunleavy and Foyle were so bad at times they were moved around. With Nelson we initially had: Baron, Pietrus, Jrich, Dunleavy, Murphy which failed immediately like it did with Montgomery and made it so Dun and Murph lost their starting positions. Then at some point Ellis got promoted, Pietrus got bumped to PF, and Murphy/Dun lost their jobs to Biedrins, Barnes. Now it's a new lineup now either because of injuries or guys not meshing well. Dun still sees way too many minutes, Pietrus still shows the signs of why a coach should yank him, Biedrins is solid but is probably gassed, and Ike still gets the rookie treatment and no play as PF. Only garbage time center. We're about the same record as last year and it doesn't look pretty whenever we lose. No longer losses by a few points it seems. I'm starting to really hate the direction of this franchise. Not only does the franchise put their coaches in a position to fail because of what crappy depth they give them or overpaying when they do, they also pick the coaches that want to play small ball and ignore guys that can play the post like Dampier when he was hot and Ike Diogu. Only Nelson has the bravery to call out Mullin's golden boy, yet he plays him probably more than Muss and Montgomery ever did. Dunleavy got demoted and ignored in the 4th by both the coaches that preceded Don Nelson. We also draft bigger than we ever have than before and Ike gets no burn, POB gets sent to NBDL, and there's no post presence to be found in closing games or opening matchups which is the root of our problem IMO. Basketball is a game of matchups and played inside and out. Otherwise we'd play all guards or all big men instead of 5 balanced players of various sizes, speeds. We could get that balance back if Nelson at least tries to go with this attack: Baron, Pietrus, Dunleavy or Barnes, Ike or Murphy, Biedrins. I understand we need some kind of point forward if one of the guards is not a decision maker or likes to score a lot like Jay Williams was at Duke. That's fine. But damn we need to get bigger if we want to challenge people in the lane and get high % points inside. Whatever happened to intimidation and presence in the paint? We got at least some right here compared to having Brian Cardinal at 6'8 or Calbery Cheaney and Dun at PF and Clif at center. It's a catch 22 here. They can't play a point forward that's any good and they can't play any reliable big men or they refuse to play any reliable big men over faster paced outside shooting, no defense type of basketball.
