According to Houston Chronicles injury updates, Bob Sura has done his very best to come back but without success for the past 2 years. JVG already believes that Sura might not be able to return at all and he admires his efforts in trying to get conditioned. Aside from this season he has a year left on his contract(I'm not sure if the last one is a team option or a player option)which will expire at the end of the 07-08 season. From a financial standpoint his contract is not expensive and probably can be bought out. Maybe the Rockets might try to trade him along with their trade exception to get a quality big man who can play either the center of PF position. The Rockets can probably inquire about Jamaal Magloire, Joe Smith or Stephen Hunter for inside help especially on the defense. We don't know how long Yao will be out. What do you think guys? Sad news. Sura's just got too much heart for his career to end this way. Any of the three bigs you mentioned are useful though. I'd prefer Magloire the most as he's a low-post guy and a decent rebounder. Playing him at center would offset Hayes' lack of height in the frontcourt and give us a decent backup. While not as athletic as Kelvin Cato was, JVG could utilize Magloire at power forward like he did with Cato as well.
Sura did good when he got here. Good people we might get. Didn't get go for Steven Hunter this past off-season?
I made a thread about this before the season, and it's about time. Hopefully we can get Cato back or an athletic big.
I think he probably made the best choice, if he is going to be in a lot of pain trying to come back. He played hard from what I remember of him a couple of years ago.
Is anybody truely surprised by this? It's about time we get Sura off the roster. He did play great for the Rockets...for one year. After that, he's just been a burden on their salery cap and has given nothing back in return (in regards to playing time).
