<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Mavs are lobbying hard for Josh Howard to make the Western Conference All-Star team. Every chance he gets, Avery Johnson makes sure he links "Howard" and "the All-Star Game" in the same sentence, especially after Howard was named the conference player of the week for the second week in a row. "If you're really just watching the game and you're seeing what he's doing night-in and night-out, he should be on the [All-Star] team," Johnson said. "He's been running the team better and reading defenses." The Mavs were 19-0 last season when Howard scored 20 or more points, and they're 11-1 this season when he's reached 20. "A lot of kids want to make it to the All-Star Game, and I know I was one of them back in the day," Howard said. "So if I get the opportunity, I'll take it."</div> Source
Howards a good player on a good team, but the west is loaded with talent and i just dont see him making it.
In the past month Howard has averaged 21 pts/ 9 rebounds a steal and a block per game. He's won back to back western conference player of the week awards. You just can't have one player making the all star team from the best team in the west. With all the injuries to the star players, Howard will make the all star team with Dirk this year.
I don't think Howard will make it unfortunately. He's had a great season and is worthy, but he plays for a Western Conference team. Here is the team I think goes to Vegas: C Yao Ming* PF Tim Duncan SF Kevin Garnett SG Tracy McGrady PG Kobe Bryant ----------------------- Amare Stoudemire Carlos Boozer Dirk Nowitzki Allen Iverson Steve Nash Shawn Marion Carmelo Anthony * Zach Randolph With Yao out, Amare moves into the starting Center spot, and I think Zach Randolph (23.8 PPG 10.2 RPG) will be chosen to fill in for Yao. Personally I think Howard should be in and Carmelo out, I don't see how missing 15 games helped Denver. But they polled the coaches and all but one said his suspension would not affect their voting. I have always been against fans voting and each year I'm proven right. How can Nash, Nowitzki, and Arenas not be starting? Almost everybody agrees those are the front runners for the MVP. Look at the West Forward voting: Shane Battier (Hou) 640,238 Shawn Marion (Pho) 332,106 Lamar Odom (LAL) 311,845 Josh Howard (Dal) 288,539 Carlos Boozer (Utah) 251,889 How is Battier above Marion, Howard, and Boozer? Not only above but has TWICE as many votes! This is a flaw in the system, Yao plays for Houston, China watches Rockets games, China votes for Rockets players. Shaquille O'Neal (Mia) 1,143,904 Dwight Howard (Orl) 978,007 Dwight Howard is a beast (17 PPG 12.5 RPG) and his team is in a division race and should make the playoffs easily. Shaq has scored 56 points in 4 games and his team is under .500 -- how can the NBA let these things happen? It was bad before Yao, now with all of China voting it's even worse, stop fan voting, save the All-Star game!
<div class="quote_poster">scorbutic Wrote</div><div class="quote_post"> I have always been against fans voting and each year I'm proven right.</div> Why? It has been and always will be a fans event. They vote for who they want to see, not who they think deserves it the most. All-NBA teams are for those most worthy on the season. And Howard will make it, like Rashard Lewis did two years ago on the back of Seattle's fairytale season, while guys like Webber and Randolph missed out despite being stronger statistically. Dallas will get two guys.
