I stumbled across this website today, it's quite an amazing look at how fast Dubai has come up as a city, and their future plans for the place. Remarkable.

Yep, been a quiet rising city for the most part. They also have the world's largest indoor ski resort. They are planning on hosting the World Cup for football in the future and to top it off have the largest standing tower in the world. Though I think the tower is really ugly, I'm more in preference of Chicago's upcoming Spire.

Average salary in Dubai is $1.5M a year. The city is beautiful, but I heard you can also rent some desert jeeps and get driven into isolated areas of the country.

I went there in 2004 when they were still building the 7 star hotel. I went on a desert safari where they take you into a desert in a jeep and drive you around the big sand hills and that. When I got back to London-Heathrow I thought "damn, this place is a sh!thole."

I had no clue that the average salary is 1.5 million. I wonder what the median is, because there could be some people making a kabillion dollars a year driving the average up.

The living standards there (due to the high salaries for the majority) are ridiculously high. The place is pretty expensive overall I'm assuming. Laker_fan, when you went to Dubai, how much would you say your expenses was based on what you did there?

I would absolutely love to visit Dubai one day. I can't believe some of you guys have never heard of the city though [IMG]

I'm not too familiar with the specifics of the different emirates that comprises the UAE, but which emirate of the 7 would be the best for touring? And which one of them is the "best" overall in your opinion? Abu Dhabi? Dubai? Those two are the only ones I know off the top of my head.

My friend was telling me about Dubai and how it's amazing and beautiful but I never pictured it like this.

The royal family is crazy smart. By investing the money made from oil into the city to turn it into a tourist attraction knowing that the oil reserves will run out eventually.

It wasn't expensive at all. I can't really remember exact prices but I remember it was roughly ?4-5($8-$10) for a meal and drink at a decent restaurant. That's the same price as a burger, fries and a drink at McDonalds in England.

Dubai is the most beautiful city in the whole world. It is looks like a real nice place to go if you're a tourist type of person.

Dubai's older section and waterfront are some of the most beautiful places in the world. The inner modern portion isn't impressive as it is quite cluttered with the layout. Still though, definitely a place everyone should visit sometime in their life.
