If the probability of being a contender-now-is O'Neals motive...we can't yet claim to be that,we are not percieved as a heavyweight.

Us taking on ANYONE who's gonna get paid $20 mill-plus is a bit of a leap of faith, and to make any sense- Dunleavy and/or Foyle would need to be leaving.
Since they are both negative value trade chips---we'd be adding a whole big bucket of assets to have the winning offer. If Indy puts JO on the bloc,it's likely SOME team is gonna make a real big offer-basically a foolish overpay. It's a lot like the get KG scenario. NOBODY is apt to get either with a low-ball package. 20+ teams would be thinking-what can we offer?

Well, Jermaine O'Neal is still relatively young. He was born in '78, so he's like 28 or 29 years old. KG is two years older, but appears to be at the peak of his career and perhaps will start tapering downhill in the next few years.

I think JO is still on the rise and will be a worthy franchise player for the next 5 years.

JO averages 19.4 points and 10 rebounds. He also happens to be a very good defender, and he's the league's leading shot-blocker at 3 a game. He does it all!

JO is awesome. He's worth betting the farm on, IMO. Murphy+JRich for JO and I'm sold in an instant.

Is it only me...? I mean Murphy is starting to look worse than Dunleavy. I know he's recovering but man! it's ugly right now. It's getting so bad that Nellie is having to bench him -- not because he's making mistakes, but just because he's not even an NBA-level player right now. Seriously. Perhaps he'll regain his old form, but that old form was an above-average player on a horrific team. He grabbed 10 boards a night because he played alongside Dun Dun and Foyle. Nowthat he's on a somewhat decent team, he'll never average a "double-double" again. with Barnes and Beans cleaning up the boards, both of those players offer twice the production of Murphy, and they get to all the loose boards before he does. He'll be lucky to average 6 boards this year, and you know they'll all be defensive boards.

I say take a gamble and move Murphy now. That'll cut a big contract. Foyle or Dun would be better, but Murphy actually has some worth to trade. I'm willing to risk it. Perhaps he goes somewhere and becomes an all-star; perhaps he goes somewhere and becomes Keith Van Horn. I'm willing to take the gamble and live with the consequences. Especially if it means getting JO.

    Murphy/Pietrus/Ike/filler for JO

    Murphy/JRich for JO

    Murphy/Foyle/POB/#1 pick for JO

    Murphy/Dunleavy/POB/#1 pick for JO

I hope Murph recovers as soon as the mask comes off, and cuts his hair...

I don't know after watching the NBA all these years especially the Stern years, I don't think there is any question a team could low ball and get KG. That team is The LAkers. Stern turned a blind eye when WEst did questionable manipulations with Shaq while with Orlando. Honestly, how would any team let a dominate force such as shaq walk away for nothing. It just isnt done, but it happened.

I think there is no question KG will be a laker soon.

There is a reason that Houston, New York, Los ANgeles, Boston and Chicago have been involved in nearly every championship since Stern took over. TV ratings.... the biggest markets.... in a league that supposedly has a salary cap .... we should be seeing parity like the NFL with lots of teams rising... but instead we saw the same teams Portland/DEtroit was one of the worst rated series ever. And crazy manipulations always seem to favor those teams.
The biggest television markets, yes i know the bay area has risen to be a big market now.

Ewing becoming a knick with the um lottery, larry johnson's 4 point play vs Indiana when he clearly was untouched, shaq's arrival in LA despite obvious tampering, kobe's agent demand that he wouldnt sign or work out for any team but LA, Bill Lambier phantom foul on JAbar, SA vs LA series, SAc vs LA game 6,7... and on and on. DAvid Aldridge wrote about these conspiracies after the sac game and then brought them up again the very next season as LA vs minnesota had some ridiculously biased calls in LA's favor. It goes on and on....

    Early Morning conspiracy ramblings ugh
