I don't think anything will happen. We always have hype to make trades during the trade deadline or make the playoffs, but none of them ever happen.
Heard it this afternoon. Portland offered Juan Dixon for MP, but Mullin shot it down. Now it could be Dixon + Magloire for MP + Foyle.

Shedding Foyle for an EXP? Hell yeah! Sure we give up the Pietrus chip, but he was probably gone anyway. THe only thing Mully should do is wait to see if he can do something better, but fall back on this one. Man, to shed Foyle in time to sign Beans/Ellis is perfect. Juan Dixon can shoot, too.

Now it could be Dixon + Magloire for MP + Foyle.</div> Dixon + Mags would be great considering I don't like Pietrus' or Foyle's game right now. Dixon and Mags I've seen. Dixon is a good shooter with the body of Steve Blake. Tall, quick, but weak. Mags when getting more minutes should be a top 10 center, big power forward type guy (a rental player for one year). The downside is that Mags hasn't played that great and he's probably one of those guys that could try to do too much offensively. It's why he's mostly off the bench. Great strength and good wingspan. And he comes off the books next year.
i would do pietrus and foyle for magloire and dixon in a heartbeat, but has that trade really even been offered? all i heard was dixon for pietrus. no mention of magloire or foyle.
Most likely not. It would be an absolute steal if we can actually package Pietrus and Foyle for an expiring contract...
http://blog.oregonlive.com/blazers/2007/02...are_coming.html Here's a Blazer's blog which talks about the trade scenario which was broadcasted on the radio.
I liked that part "As Jason Quick just said on 1080 AM, the Blazers have reportedly offered up Juan Dixon to Golden State for Mickael Pietrus (it works!). That would be the sweetest plum. The only problem is that Quick just told me that the Blazers were rebuked with extreme prejudice, as you might expect." Mully probably said FU and countered how bout you take Foyle for Magloire.
Here's a long article, but interesting, on trade rumors not going away: Market watch Latest deadline buzz on Kidd, Carter, Gasol and more Posted: Wednesday February 21, 2007 12:18PM; Updated: Wednesday February 21, 2007 5:33PM Jason Kidd to the Lakers? Pau Gasol to the Bulls? Vince Carter to the Magic? All three of those rumored blockbuster deals appeared to be stalled, if not dead, as of Wednesday morning. What once appeared to be a busy trade season seems to be petering out as Thursday's 3 p.m. ET deadline approaches. "Right now it looks like a lot of back-end rotation players, bench guys," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said about the trade market. "It's hard to say if a big deal is imminent or not. "But it can all change in one phone call." Kupchak, of course, is right in the middle of the biggest trade buzz right now. The Lakers were said to be front-runners to acquire Kidd from the Nets, but the trade appears to have stalled over L.A.'s refusal to include 19-year-old center Andrew Bynum in the package. The main reported deal would have sent Bynum, Jordan Farmar, a No. 1 pick and a package of expiring contracts to New Jersey for the All-Star point guard. Kupchak wouldn't comment on Kidd or any specifics of his team's trade discussions. However, an Eastern Conference GM said the Lakers were trying to get a third team involved that would enable the Nets to get a package they wanted to make a deal work for Kidd. The Blazers, who have been dangling center Jamaal Magloire and his expiring contract, could be a potential target. The Clippers also were said to be a possibility for Kidd in a straight-up deal involving Corey Maggette and Shaun Livingston, though the same source said L.A. was unwilling to part with Livingston. There seemed to be little doubt that the Nets were actively shopping Kidd. Nets GM Rod Thorn has been burning up the phone lines, according to several sources. Kidd also said over All-Star Weekend that he would not be surprised if he were traded. Kupchak, meanwhile, said he would not be any more likely to make a deal because of the loss of Vladimir Radmanovic. The 6-10 forward suffered a separated shoulder over the All-Star break and is expected to miss eight weeks. "We don't feel the need to go out and get a player for a month or two," Kupchak said, noting that any acquisition would need time to get comfortable in the triangle offense. Scottie Pippen, who knows the triangle offense and has expressed a desire to come out of retirement, might be an exception. But Kupchak said any decision to bring in the 41-year-old former NBA great would be up to Phil Jackson, and that the two had not yet spoken to his knowledge. "It's something that if Phil were comfortable with, we'd consider," Kupchak said. "But we don't know Scottie's plans yet. ... Once we get past the trade deadline, we'd talk about it." 1 of 2 Here's an update on some of the other bits picked up in conversations with several GMs and player-personnel types: ? The Pau Gasol trade talks have cooled considerably. Apparently Bulls GM John Paxson is holding firm in his stance that he doesn't want to trade either Luol Deng or Ben Gordon. One Eastern Conference GM said he wouldn't be surprised if the Bulls and Grizzlies pulled off the deal at the last minute, but he believed Memphis was content to keep the 7-foot Spaniard until the summer. For what it's worth, the NBA also announced over All-Star Weekend that the Grizzlies would be playing an exhibition game in Spain next fall. Would David Stern & Co. have agreed to send Memphis over there without at least some indication from Jerry West that Gasol would still be around? Meanwhile, rumors of a Zach Randolph deal for Chicago have begun to regain steam. Randolph is just the kind of low-post scorer the Bulls need, and his Michigan State background fits with coach Scott Skiles. However, his past character issues, lack of defense and big contract make it doubtful Paxson would mortgage his team's future on him. Besides, the Blazers continue to insist they aren't trading Randolph. Chicago might instead make a run at Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who has been platooning with Kenny Thomas in Sacramento. ? Despite statements to the contrary by New Jersey brass, the Nets' chances of moving Vince Carter were said to be even lower than that of Kidd. The All-Star forward has the right to terminate the last year of his contract ($16.4 million) at season's end and become a free agent, meaning any team that acquires him would want assurances that he would be interested in re-signing. The Magic could offer Grant Hill's expiring contract in a deal for Carter, but they don't want to add another huge contract when they have to extend Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson, and possibly pay free agent-to-be Darko Milicic. ? Magloire remains in limbo as the Blazers try to find a deal for the 7-foot former All-Star. The Wizards made queries, according to a league source, but it is unclear if an offer was made. The likeliest deal would involve Etan Thomas and Jarvis Hayes. Would the Blazers take on the remaining three years and $20 million due Thomas? Probably not. Also, Magloire would have more value in a sign-and-trade next summer than would Hayes. ? The Nuggets and Celtics appear to be two of the more active teams, but neither looks to have the assets to pull off a major deal. George Karl has said he would like to add a point guard, and there were reports of a deal with the Mavs that would send Anthony Johnson to Denver for Eduardo Najera. The Celtics are said to be seeking any kind of big-man help. ? While much of the focus has been on big names, it is beginning to appear as if this year's trade deadline might feature more small deals. Miami's James Posey, Memphis' Chucky Atkins and Stromile Swift, Minnesota's Mike James, Detroit's Nazr Mohammed and Flip Murray, Chicago's Chris Duhon, San Antonio's Jackie Butler and Golden State's Mickael Pietrus are among the names that have been bandied about. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...buzz/index.html
I bet the Blazers gm still thinks Mully is in his 2004-2005 form and that's why they thought (supposedly) that Juan Dixon for Pietrus was more or less fair.
If true, this sounds really DISTURBING: "The Lakers were "not necessarily" the team that was "most eager" for Kidd, Thorn said. Although virtually every team in the league has called -- mostly on the hope they could make a killing the way the Nets stole Vince Carter in 2004 -- only one is actually willing to put together a deal that includes a frontline player. That team is believed to be Golden State, which has been offering Jason Richardson to virtually everybody, but the Nets are unwilling to take on his contract (which runs through 2011) or that of Adonal Foyle (which runs through 2010), who has to be added to make the salaries match Kidd's $18 million." http://www.nj.com/nets/ledger/index.ssf?/b...2440.xml&coll=1
From the ESPN Insider and others: Trade Unlikely Feb 21 - Meanwhile, there were no changes in the already minuscule possibility that the Lakers end up with New Jersey guard Jason Kidd by Thursday's trade deadline. "How many times do you guys want me to say it?" Kobe Bryant said. "You want me to say it in Chinese? A name like Jason Kidd comes across the table, you have to look at it. You just absolutely have to." But numerous sources said the Lakers would not part with Bryant, Lamar Odom or Andrew Bynum, making a trade for Kidd highly unlikely. There's always Scottie Pippen, who declared last week he would like to come out of a three-year retirement. -- Los Angeles Times ******** The chances of Jason Kidd being dealt appeared to be lessening, as sources said the Nets are not actively seeking a third team to include in a possible Kidd deal. Sources have indicated that Kidd's divorce proceedings have no bearing on a potential trade. It would be strictly a basketball decision. Kidd did not speak with reporters Tuesday. -- Bergen Record ******** Offers Are Laughable Feb 21 - So the perception that Jason Kidd and/or Vince Carter will soon be wearing some other team's colors was ... what, media hysteria? "You might say that, yes," Rod Thorn said, chuckling. "Really, you never know what's going to happen. But as of right now, nothing's going to happen." Whether Thorn said this so he could talk Nets fans off the ledge is unclear, but he clearly wasn't enamored of any trade proposals that came across his desk phone yesterday. Some of them made him laugh, he admitted. Some of them were from peers who clearly thought they could steal a star for next to nothing. "I've gotten several of those," he said. -- Newark Star-Ledger ******** Speculation Continues Feb 21 - Speculation continued to abound Tuesday, as NBA sources indicated there is a real possibility the Nets could move Vince Carter by Thursday's trade deadline. The Nets are willing to offer a three-year extension worth about $40 million, but the All-Star shooting guard repeatedly has said he is not thinking about next season. That ultimately could lead to his being traded. Reportedly, the Nets are talking with the Clippers about a package that would include 6-foot-7 guard Shaun Livingston. But two sources denied that Tuesday night. Earlier this season, the Nets were unwilling to trade Carter to the Clippers for Cuttino Mobley and Corey Maggette. Seattle is a possibility for Carter. -- Bergen Record While several NBA execs put a damper on the possibility of Kidd moving anywhere by tomorrow's 3 p.m. deadline - one labeled a potential deal as "highly doubtful" - other league sources claimed new talks were initiated regarding Carter, despite his ability to opt out of his contract at season's end. One exec said there was a 50-50 chance of a trade. -- New York Post The Nets also are entertaining offers for Carter, but one has yet to come from Orlando, the team Carter is believed to want to sign with if he opts out of his contract this summer. "The team that we have on the floor is the team that we'll have on Friday," Magic GM Otis Smith said last night at the Garden. Asked how certain he was, Smith said, "Ninety-nine-point-nine. Is that good enough?" -- Newsday ******** Much to the delight of Clifford Robinson, I convinced Jason Kidd to talk tonight by calling him Barry Bonds. I was waiting by Kidd's locker Wednesday night to speak to him prior to what may have been his last game for the New Jersey Nets, but when Kidd emerged from the trainer's room he didn't make eye contact with me or anyone else as he fiddled with his iPod, checked his Blackberry and put on his uniform shorts, right leg first, then left. Kidd turned and walked away without a word, so I called to him, "Hey, Barry Bonds. Aren't you going to talk?" I covered Bonds back when I was dabbling in baseball writing, and that's how he acts. Robinson appreciated the joke, and Kidd apparently did, too, because he came back from the trainer's room two minutes later and relented. Making it clear that he would not mind at all if a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers goes through, Kidd said the big difference between what's going on now in New Jersey and what happened the last two times he was traded was that he was blindsided when Dallas moved him to Phoenix and when Phoenix moved him to New Jersey. This time, it's no secret the Lakers are trying to get him. "This is as much attention as I've ever seen for the possibility of a trade, so we'll see what happens," Kidd said. "I've really enjoyed New Jersey, but things change in this league, and they don't change slowly, they happen fast." Kidd has been saying for the past two weeks that he learned at an early NBA age to always keep a bag packed, and he said Wednesday such a bag should include a toothbrush, deodorant, a suit and a sweatsuit. But pressed on the issue, he admitted he does not yet have that bag packed -- which might be just as well, since both the Nets and the Lakers did not expect the trade to come to fruition. The Lakers spent Wednesday shopping around the league, trying to find something the Nets would want. New Jersey had no interest in the package of players Los Angeles was offering -- some combination of Kwame Brown, Chris Mihm, Aaron McKie, Jordan Farmar and a No. 1 pick -- if Lamar Odom or Andrew Bynum were not included. Kidd said he had been told the Lakers were the only team in the mix to acquire him. People familiar with Kidd's thinking said Los Angeles was the only other city where Kidd would be happy playing, and the Nets were being dissuaded from trying to send him elsewhere as a make-good to Kidd for what he had meant to the franchise. Golden State and Sacramento had been mentioned as possible acceptable destinations for Kidd since he grew up in nearby Oakland. "I don't think [Mike] Bibby is going to end up anywhere close to New Jersey. Maybe somewhere in the Midwest, from what I hear," Kidd said. In conversations with sources around the league Wednesday, this was the latest I was hearing: ? Kidd's teammate, Vince Carter, also was looking at a possible relocation to Los Angeles, to the Clippers. But for the Nets to make such a trade, they'd have to get back Shaun Livingston -- a player the Clips had refused to part with in earlier talks between the teams -- along with Corey Maggette. ? As Kidd suggested, Cleveland was emerging as the likeliest destination for Bibby. I heard from a very reliable source that the Minnesota Timberwolves were involved in three-team talks with the Kings and Cavs, with Mike James looking like the likeliest replacement at point guard for the Kings. Drew Gooden would headline the package the Cavs would surrender. There was also talk that a fourth team was trying to get involved, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was Phoenix. I'm told the Suns and Cavaliers have discussed a Marcus Banks-Damon Jones trade as a fallback in the event a Bibby deal fell through. There also was a possibility Banks could go to Sacramento in a four-way Cleveland-Sacramento-Phoenix-Minnesota deal, with the Kings getting one of the two spare No. 1 picks the Suns have at their disposal (their own and Cleveland's). The third No. 1 pick Phoenix owns is a pick owed by Atlanta for the Joe Johnson trade. It is top-three protected in 2007 and unprotected in 2008, and is virtually untouchable. ? The Houston Rockets were discussing at least two moves involving Bonzi Wells, including a trade with Chicago for Michael Sweetney. Another option was believed to be a swap of Wells and a second player to Detroit for Dale Davis and Flip Murray, though Pistons president Joe Dumars was first trying to find a taker for Nazr Mohammed before he committed to a Davis trade. ? Dallas was interested in acquiring P.J. Brown from the Bulls, but Chicago was still waiting to hear whether Jerry West would lower his asking price on Pau Gasol and drop his insistence on receiving Luol Deng in return. Also, the Mavericks were looking to move only Austin Croshere in a trade for Brown, and Chicago does not want Croshere. The only possibility for that trade to happen would be if a third team was willing to take Croshere and give away what the Bulls were looking for -- an effective low-post scorer. Wells proved to be just that in the playoffs for the Kings last season, and the Bulls appeared closer to getting him -- and keeping Brown -- than they were to getting Gasol. ? Another player being shopped was Toronto's Fred Jones, who still stood of a chance of being sent to Portland for Juan Dixon. Philadelphia was another possible destination for Jones, though the 76ers were not willing to give up the one player the Raptors and several other teams coveted: Kyle Korver. ? Under prodding from consultant Larry Brown, the 76ers took a stab at acquiring center Jackie Butler from San Antonio but were rebuffed. Butler and Beno Udrih were the two players the Spurs were listening to offers for. Chris Sheridan covers the NBA for ESPN Insider.
Well, there goes our pipe dream of packaging Pietrus and Foyle for Dixon and Mag. Dixon got traded for Freddy Jones...
If the Grizzlies wanted Ben Gordon and Deng for Gasol, do you think the Warriors and Grizzlies would be daring enough to do a Baron Davis/Mickael Pietrus for Pau Gasol/Stromile Swift(or Brian Cardinal) trade? (Sorry this is kind of a repeat of my recent post in the game thread, but I thought it might go well here too)
With the deadline passed-the best news is we did not screw up. Next best- the Lakers don't get Kidd for just Bozos and backup Bozos Finally- a hint we may even try to polish up,improve what's aboard rather than rely on other teams to send us established veterans. Also...I guess we are not too frantic about the $ outlook,no big sacrafice to shed salary move
Yeah, I think we have to give this season a good look to evaluate our team We could still make some moves this offseason...
The offseason will be Mully's big test. Hopefully Nelly can offer some pointers as he knows what he wants and he knows about gm-ing.
Not that this would happen...nothing in it for Pippen but i would love to see the Dub's cut Barnes, um IR him and pick up Pippen. This team could use a vet that has been there before for this playoff stretch run and we would keep the lakers from getting him.
