Quote:

In 38 appearances for Akasvayu during the 2005/06 regular season, Vazquez averaged just eight points, four points and one assist. Vazquez?s misery was then compounded when he missed out on Spain?s glorious FIBA World Championship campaign last summer because of a back injury. The 2.09m power forward/center would have been sure to go to Japan after playing a key role during Spain?s EuroBasket 2005 campaign, where he helped his country finish in fourth spot to earn their place at the World Championship. But while his international team-mates were off chasing gold in the Far East, Vazquez was left at home looking to regain his fitness and hoping his move to Winterthur FC Barcelona, who he joined after just one year at Akasvayu, would see his career back on track. And although Vazquez, who signed a four-year contract with the option of a fifth with the Catalan side, has yet to set the world alight at a stuttering Barca, his performance this weekend suggests things are on the up for the 23-year-old. He recorded a triple-double for Barca in their match with Grupo Capitol Valladolid, becoming only the sixth player in ACB history to achieve the feat. In the process, Vazquez also racked up a league-high 12 blocks (dating back to 1989). George Singleton held the previous record with 10, which he set during the 1993/94 season while playing for TDK Manresa. Aside from the 12 blocks, Vazquez also scored 11 points and claimed 10 rebounds in Barca?s 65-58 victory. "I am very happy, overall because of the victory," said Vazquez after the match. "I think that it has been one of my best games for Barcelona, I felt very comfortable. "I hope to continue with this good form, but I still feel I have to keep working and keep improving." The win over Valladolid improved Barca?s record to 8-8 for the season and sees them in eighth spot heading into next weekend?s home game against 12th-placed CB Granada With Copa del Rey places up for grabs, Vazquez knows the importance of picking up a victory over Granada. "We can feel a lot more comfortable if we can keep the victory in Barcelona," he added on www.fcbarcelona.com.
Source

I honestly can't stand players like that... steal a team's draft pick like that.
Damn. Imagine if the Magic drafted someone like Gerald Green. In the future, if Green lives up to his full potential, him and Dwight Howard could be the next great duo. I'm kind of relieved though, because before the draft a lot of "experts" had the Lakers taking Fran Vazquez at number 10.
so can anyone tell me who was drafted after fran?? i know may, green, mccants were all drafted after lil' bitch
11 Orlando Magic Fran Vazquez 12 LA Clippers Yaroslav Korolev 13 Charlotte Bobcats Sean May 14 Minnesota Timberwolves Rashad McCants 15 New Jersey Nets Antoine Wright 16 Toronto Raptors Joey Graham 17 Indiana Pacers Danny Granger 18 Boston Celtics Gerald Green 19 Memphis Grizzlies Hakim Warrick 20 Denver Nuggets Julius Hodge 21 Phoenix Suns (to New York) Nate Robinson 22 Denver Nuggets (to Portland) Jarrett Jack 23 Sacramento Kings Francisco Garcia 24 Houston Rockets Luther Head 25 Seattle SuperSonics Johan Petro 26 Detroit Pistons Jason Maxiell 27 Portland Trail Blazers (to Denver) Linas Kleiza 28 San Antonio Spurs Ian Mahinmi 29 Miami Heat Wayne Simien 30 New York Knicks David Lee I underlined the players that I really wish we had taken over Franny.
i would have loved to also have luther head, jason maxiell and wayne simien...even antoine wright, because they all have so much potential

XSV Wrote

Jarrett Jack is one hell of a player as well.
Yeah I like his game. I didn't highlight him though since we didn't need a point guard at the time (Jameer).
David Lee would have been perfect. Not only is he from Florida, but he would give Dwight some help on the boards and make it impossible for opponents to get second chance opportunities, while giving his team many opportunities to score with his offensive rebounds and tip outs.
The Magic should have drafted Danny Granger he would have been the perfect complimentary player to Dwight Howard, and he could fill the void Grant Hill will leave once he retires. Granger really slipped in the draft because scouts didn't do their research on his injuries. Most scouts glanced over the amount of games he missed in college, but didn't do the research to find out Granger was a transfer player.

From what I've heard he sounds pretty similar to Trevor Ariza.

Jameer Nelson, Danny Granger, Trevor Ariza, Darko Milicic, Dwight Howard That would have been a sick team for the next decade.
I remember watching the draft. I was hoping for Sean May or Gerald Green, and when Fran was selected I was already getting bad vibes. David Lee would have been amazing, but reminiscing on this crap sucks. I hope he doesn't come to the NBA though.
I threw my remote when they said Fran Vazquez. I was thinking, "There's no way we can pass on Green." I'm not even kidding, I threw the remote and it broke and my dad got pissed. True story.
The Magic definitely dropped the ball as far as communication with Vasquez goes, but as far as actual talent evaluation goes, they were pretty on the money. The only players I would have taken over Fran Vasquez if I thought he'd come to the NBA would have been Danny Granger, Gerald Green, Hakim Warrick, and David Lee, in that order (and no, I'm not just saying that now, I'm on the record for saying that back around the draft).

He makes Mario Kasun look like Hakeem Olajuwon

If they stepped onto our practice court they'd be more useful than Vazquez. The players I underlined are just the ones that when I see their name, I still cringe at the thought of having them. They are the guys that makes this Fran pick hurt even worse. I do agree with you though, anyone would have been better than Fran.
