Career game for Nick, with 29/21 (that came out of nowhere) but other than that, just ran out of steam against a more experienced and deeper outfit.

Why play Earl for so many minutes with the way he was shooting it given Luke's had a great record against the Suns of late though?

    Box.

Nick looked great, working the paint like a pro. If only the rest of the NBA would let us in there.

    Great game by Collison.

This team is competing and losing. When you lose 12 in a row in the road something needs to change. Rick Sund needs to make a major trade -- involving Lewis or Allen. Our current roster isn't good enough to compete against the 20 best teams in the league.

We're really in a bit of no man's land at the moment. Not entirely rebuilding because we still have so much money invested in Ray and Rashard, yet realistically we're so far away from being a contender it's not funny.

And where do you go from here? No point trading one of the big two for cap space, because realistically who is going to come to Seattle as a free agent. Multiple picks in the lottery/first round would be nice though - imagine getting a kid like Kevin Durant into the franchise?

That's all i'm looking forward to. Any trade to get another first rounder would be great, this year's class should be real good with all the dudes with a year in college under their belts. Kevin Durant and say Marcus Williams coming in taking the reigns from Ray and Rashard with our bigs coming into their own would be sweet. Although that team wouldn't compete either for years but it's a start.

This isn't momentary. The Sonics have been there for years.

True, I guess that magical 04/05 season just papered over cracks and gave us a false idea of where the team really is it. It was fun though.

You'll have to excuse me for being a bit jaded, but, even when we get good draft position we screw it up. If we quit screwin around and drafted on "best available talent" we would be fine right now. We would still have Nick (though I was against it at the time, he was the best out there), but we would have David Lee who was clearly the best pick around in his draft, and that has nothing to do with my UF bias. Passing on Jameer Nelson, JR Smith (think McDonalds AA game) and Josh Smith was just silly. I wanted to shoot myself that year. I knew they wouldn't draft a guard, so i was praying for my next point. We should have Al Jefferson. It's true that I wanted Christian Drejer in the second round but, hey, I'm a Gator so shoot me. I do like Ridnour, but he couldn't defend in college, and he really can't defend at this level. We should have Josh Howard, as should many teams he passed him up, leaving me to think at the time; Do any of these scouts WATCH basketball?
I can't even say Peter Fehse.
We should have Richard Jefferson. Nope, I was like "Who The HELL! Radmanowhat!!!
And so finally we end up at Desmond Mason, The last solid pick by the Sonics (They nullified Collison with Ridnour in my mind), and we trade him away. So, I am against trading for picks is what I'm trying to say.

I actually remember you wanting David Lee. In fact you said something like he was a jump shot away from the lottery. I don't know why, I just remember that post for some reason. [IMG]

Funny that you remember that. I didn't know if anybody here remembered me, let alone what I posted quite awhile ago.

I don't blame management for the current state of the franchise. A healthy Robert Swift and Rashard Lewis in my opinion is enough to get us into the playoffs. We don't have either of those guys and we have Bob Hill as a coach -- which is a recipe for disaster.

As far as draft picks we are not going to get any good big guys to commit to coming to Seattle as a FA unless we give them a max deal. We have been solid on the perimeter since we acquired Ray Allen and Flip from Milwaukee. We made the right decisions in the draft the past couple of years b/c there has been no one that we could have selected that is better than Ray Allen or Rashard Lewis.

We've gone big and none of the bigs have panned out yet. I honestly think that Robert Swift would have had a very good season if healthy. Johan Petro was a reach but we got him at pick #25. He will get one, maybe two more contracts in the league. That is saying much more than any other center picked behind him. And Mo Sene will lead the NBA in blocks once he understands the NBA game. You can't give up on 3 20 year old centers.

So in my estimation, if we are going to blow up this team we have to trade for some leadership and some draft picks -- hopefully one earlier than #10. That is the only way that we can establish ourselves as an elite team for years to come.

I don't want to make a new topic for the Heat, I just want to say that they're basically the opposite of the Sonics. Very little talent, but they now how to kick it up a notch at the end of the game.
