Another topic that has come up in several sites that I've been too, including the likes of NFL.com, FOXSports, Yahoo! Sports, etc. From what I have learned from it, as soon as the off-season started, the Titans restructured McNair's contract from a three year deal, to a one year deal, because there was speculation that this would be his last year in Tennessee, likely explanation being retirement. However, the front office for the Titans didn't quite realize what they were doing, and I'll explain. Like complete idiots, when they cut the contract down from a 3 year deal, to a 1 year deal, they made it so that all of the money that he'd make in that three year span, he'd make it all in this upcoming season. Therefore, he's in line to make over 24 million dollars this year. What a significant cap hit and the way they restructured that contract makes me question the higher-ups in the organization. How could they not realize what they were doing when they did this? Now it hits them in the face, like a huge wake-up call, and they don't know what to do with McNair now, because they really don't want to pay him all that money, not that I can blame them, but it's their fault that they are in the situation. Rumor has it that Baltimore is extremely interested in getting their hands on McNair, someway, somehow. So, here's my proposal, lol. Ravens get Steve McNair Titans get Ray Lewis Makes sense to me! Lol. Baltimore really wants McNair, Tennessee doesn't want to pay McNair, and Ray Lewis isn't happy in Balitmore. It'd solve so many problems, and not to mention it'd make the Titans have quite possibly the best set of linebackers in the NFL in Bulluck, Lewis, and Thornton. I'm not taking anything away from any other team with great linebackers, don't get me wrong, but with players like that, how could you disagree? Ha..you'd have to atleast consider them ONE of the top sets of linebackers anyway. Anyway, I've typed enough, probably bored you all in the time of doing so, but lets hear some thoughts, comments, all that good stuff..
When Tennessee reworked McNair's new 1 yr deal, it was so that he could mentor V Young who they wanted to draft. R. Lewis for McNair isn't a bad idea. Volek IMO is ready to be the man. Leinart could step in right away as did Peyton. I bet McNair stays a Titan through the 06 season.
The only problem that i see with this trade is that hardly ever do division rivals trade to each other. I think if the titans were going to trade they would try to trade in the NFC so they dont have to see him that much.
Release McNair, Baltimore sign him, draft linemen and defense, Ray will be happy, OH HAPPY HAPPY SUNNY DAYS!

But, I don't think they'd worry too much about playing against McNair once every four years, or whatever the time span is the opposing divisions play eachother, etc. I honestly think he'll be traded though, the Titans are supposedly active in doing the trade talks as we speak. And the only team pursuing him that has been mentioned is Baltimore. But, we'll just have to wait it out, I guess. I love McNair, McNair is to Titans fans just like Bettis is to Steeler fans, Favre is to Packer fans, etc. But, there isn't a person in the NFL worth that much money. So, if we can get something to help out the team and it ends in trading him, then I'm all for it. Like some of you have mentioned, Volek is more then capable of starting, and with this year's draft, it's not like Volek would be starting for more then one season, if that.
yea... i don't see him staying in tenessee no player is worth 24mill in one season not even the highest paid athele in the nfl.... would get that much in one yr... close.... but... yea i don't see him stayin in TN altho he is stilla really good player just plagued by injuries hes always toughed it out i respect him.. ray lewis for mcnair it'd be a cool trade .... but i don't really see that happening its possilbe but..... highly improbable
Earlier tonight, ESPN's botom line said McNair was asked to leave the Titans training facility until his contract is resolved.
First off, the Ravens would not give up Ray Lewis for a QB who would only play 1-2 more seasons. If I were the GM of the Titans would at least trade for a decent CB or something like that. Trade him for Samari Rolle or someone like that, although I highly doubt that trade would ever go down. Worst case scenerio, you trade for a 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd round draft pick. Thats how I look at it.
Yeah I doubt they would do that. But the Titans have a bad secondary. Don't know if they picked up any CB's. But they sure do need a good CB, and a decent replacement for Tank Williams.
