The Sixers just bought out Webber's contract, so he's up for grabs now. I'd absolutley approve Chris Webber on this team. His strength is his spot up shooting, which will be fantastic on a team where he'll get the best looks of his career. He's also a incredible passer at PF which could work well with the Rockets. Webber's past injuries have regulated him to just a shooter, but that's exactly what we're needing at PF. Plus he's got playoff experience which will help us in the long run. I like Howard, but Webber's a slight upgrade at PF. The only problem is his injuries, but he's been relativley healthy the last couple years. Given that his role will be limited, that's shouldn't be much of a problem. The question is can the Rockets pull it off. We might have to let some players go, but I think it's worth it. What do you guys think? NOTE: San Antonio, Miami, Dallas & Detroit are ALL pusuing Webber right now. The fact is, his best fit is HOUSTON.
I'd take Juwan over CWebb anyday. CWebb has no knees left, he's just a spot up shooter because he has no mobility left. He won't be able to defend. I'm pretty sure he will get into it with JVG. Unlike Juwan, CWebb has been a distraction to the Sixers and the Kings before them. He hasn't taken his reduced role gracefully.
Yeah, I hate Chris Webber. I'm kind of glad he got cut by the Sixers since he really did nothing for them. The negatives outweigh the positives. I think I already posted something about Webber coming here in the Trade Suggestion thread.

This is what I posted in the other thread... <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Me:</div><div class="quote_post">Yeah, agree with Trip and Durvasa on the Webber call. As a Sixers fan, I know just how much can come with him. From the past couple seasons, he's bitched and moaned about getting the ball, has been a distraction in the locker room, and shot the ball ineffectively. However, in the general scope, there's even more. Because of his bum knee, he can't really defend, hustle for loose balls, or run the floor well. On the other hand, offensively he's still pretty good. He's got a nice midrange shot (although it annoys me to hell with his technique and inconsistency), finds open cutters, and makes it hard for the other team to doube team the star (Allen Iverson at the time). Like Trip said, he's still good at rebounding, but to me, considering the amount of minutes he's getting, it leaves something to be desired. Webber is not someone I'd like to go to the Rockets at all. He's a slight upgrade over Howard, but considering the risks he's going to bring us (piss poor defense, possibility of bitchin), its not worth it.</div>
<div class="quote_poster">Rock4life Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">What are the negatives?</div> (1) He's an incredibly inefficient scorer. 39 FG% from the field this year (a deplorable 41 TS%). Previous four seasons his TS% has been under 50%, which would put him right at the bottom of the pile in scoring efficiency league wide. (2) He's become a real defensive liability at this point in his career. Very poor lateral movement, and his shot blocking days are long gone. Like Bonzi, he has some smarts and quick hands, so he'll still get you a decent number of steals. He's a pretty good defensive rebounder. But, overall, his defense is simply terrible. That's probably the primary reason he stopped getting playing time in Philadelphia. His positives is that he's a tremendous passer with a great feel for the game. He's still a good rebounder. He's capable of big scoring games, though he's equally capable of "4 for 15 from the floor" type games. It would be an intriguing aquisition. Pesonally, I don't think he'd help the team a whole lot. But if we can get him real cheap, I wouldn't be opposed to it. It would be a gamble that might be worth taking. Similar to the Bonzi acquisition in some respects. Another player who could be worth taking a look at is Penny Hardaway (hey, same draft class). Who knows, he might give us some Bobby Sura type production. If he can give us even 1/2 of what Bobby gave us two years ago, I think that's worth giving the veteran's minimum for.
Yes. Chris Webber has been having a tough couple of years, but I think he can pick it up if he had a good team like the Rockets. The only problem is that there were rumors that Webber was traded to the Kings so he would be away from Juwan Howard when he used to play for the "Bullets". (Or if im mistaken Juwan Howard might have been traded?) So there is some old story with those two.
doesn't he get a brand new contract. Can't he sign for really really cheap. I think he could help the Rockets.

It would be a reunion for the former FAV Fives if the Rockets were able to get Webber. Sure Juwan would be glad but it will affect his playing time. Webber can also play center if Deke is resting. Hayes minutes will be diminished by a lot if this happens. Anyway I think it's unlikely to happen although the Rockets can free up a roster spot if they were able to buy out Sura's contract. Probably it would be best for the Rockets to acquire a better player using Sura's contract plus the expiring trade exception.
Errrrr, tough call. His defense sucks like a newly wed bride, though he is a great offensive player. He could stretch the defense better than Juwon. I'd still say no because Juwon is doing great and doesn't demand the ball like Webber. Though I still find the though of Webber in the Rockets red intriguing.

Even after his prime, I've alwayz said Penny would fit well on the Rockets. What team couldn't use a 6'8 pg who can post up? I'd love Penny in a Rockets uni. But his injuries are the same risk we'd take with Webber.
I don't see what the harm would be in getting Cwebb. hes going to get a small contract and his wants to win. If he gets injured then he is injured and we keep playing the way we are.

He isn't a three-point shooter and probably won't be as fast as he once was, but this is still a guy who plays smart and has great size at the one, two or three. By playing him at the point, we can allow Head, Lucas or Spanoulis to play shooting guard full-time, and he can play the same role Sura did. If we do get him, we shouldn't expect too much, though. I'd be happy with 10 minutes of solid production every night.

I forget who made the comment on a local LA radio show, but he (NBA scout) said Penny could still average 15/5/5 if he came back.
