<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> January 10, 2007 EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.? Pape Sow's long road back from a broken neck is almost complete. The 25-year-old Sow left for Las Vegas last night to be examined by the surgeon who operated on his fractured vertebrae last summer and expects to be given clearance to resume full-contact basketball work by the end of this week. Sow broke the bones in a horrific fall during a practice before the summer league season began in July in Las Vegas and has not yet taken part in a full basketball scrimmage. He was examined by doctors in Toronto earlier this month and will see the Nevada surgeon today. He plans to rejoin the Raptors in Boston on Friday and could take part in his first full practice Saturday in Toronto. The 6-foot-10, 250-pound Sow is in the final year of a contract that will pay him just under $750,000 (U.S.) this season. Through his rehabilitation, Sow has been trying to convince coaches he has been able to handle the rigours of a full-contact scrimmage, driving them almost to distraction with his desire to get back on the court. "He's been killing us for months," coach Sam Mitchell said. However, team officials wanted to err on the side of caution with Sow, who fearlessly threw himself at rebounds and loose balls. They allowed him to take part in shooting and conditioning drills and to work individually with coaches, but not in full-court scrimmages. DOUG SMITH</div> Not sure if Sow will provide anything to this team but its great to hear he is healthy.
News came down today and Sow is now officially cleared to play. Most likely won't for a while though; he'll need to get back into shape, and he's not eligible to be sent down to the NBDL.
Don't you guys see a resemblance between his game and Humphries? I don't see the need for him to come back asap if that's what he's trying to do.
Humphries is better offensively, but defensively, they're similar, aside from the fact that Sow is a better shotblocker. It'll always be good to have big men around and Sow gives us another body to guard the Shaqs and Dwight Howards.
It's going to take a hell of a lot of work from him to get some burn. Really, the only unique skill he brings is long arms that block shots and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of his progress on offense and defensive positioning was lost. I would like to see him and Bargnani play at the same time, though.
i like sow as a person but at best he's bo outlaw and at worst, he's out of the league next year. he's still very raw offensively and his bball iq sucks.
