<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">HOUSTON ? Aaron Goodwin figures to be a busy man for a while.

The agent has figured prominently in the buying out of Chris Webber's contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, meaning a new home will need to be found for an aging forward who averaged 11 points and 8.3 rebounds in 18 games this season.

With Kwame Brown, Lamar Odom and Chris Mihm sidelined by injuries, the Lakers are short in the frontcourt, making them natural inquirers for Webber's services.

A team source acknowledged the situation was "intriguing," but other teams could also feel the same way about Webber, including Dallas, Phoenix, Detroit and Miami.

Coach Phil Jackson did not publicly acknowledge interest in the 14-year veteran, but you could almost see him nodding his head as he spoke in a series of theoreticals.

"In a hypothetical case like this, I'll tell you that we would have to do our research on a player, look at the games that he had played in, analyze the tapes to see what it looks like physically, all that type of stuff before we would even consider a player," he said. "Sometimes when we are in the course of looking at individuals around the league, two or three of our assistant coaches and one of the scouting staff will take a couple tapes home, and I'll look at them, and we'll confer with each other."

Webber has never played a full NBA season and has been slowed in recent seasons because of knee issues. His game has been shortened to jump shots and only occasional forays to the hoop.

The Lakers are over the salary cap and have already used their mid-level exception to sign Vladimir Radmanovic, meaning they could offer Webber about $1.2 million, the minimum for a player with his experience.</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">On the prospect of power forward Chris Webber's contract buyout in Philadelphia making him a free agent, Jackson said: "Chris is a great player. We have to leave that in Mitch's (Kupchak) department to allow him to suggest that or deal with that as it comes along."

Webber, who turns 34 in March, has been angling to join the Lakers for years via trade and remains interested in them now, although playing time wouldn't be abundant once Odom and Brown return from injury.

At some point this season, Jackson intends to play Brown some at power forward, with Andrew Bynum at center.

The Lakers could create a roster spot given that Chris Mihm is out for the season and is in the last year of his contract.</div>

Remember when we thought of Webber in Laker uniform but quickly dismissed the idea because of his contract and inflated price tag? What do yu think of the idea now? In all honesty I think we atleast improve on last year's first round exit.

$1.2Million for Webber is a no-brainer and he's an upgrade over the two human statues on the Lakers bench Aaron McKie and Shammond Williams.

Then obviously you haven't seen him play recently. Kwame has really improved from his days in Washington and is now our best defensive player. He can shut down guys like Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Dwight Howard

His post offense is better and he's just a beast on defense. He's easily our best post defender and he's one of the best in the league now.

Now if he could only catch the ball on offense....[IMG]

Don't know if I necessarily want Webber. We need someone who can bang and play hard-nosed defense. Nowadays Webber isn't even in the same building with that conversation.

Kwames great on post defense. His problem is his damn hands. He just can't seem to hang on to the ball.

Webber would be an upgrade if we could get him dirt cheap. Otherwise, SAY NO TO the WOLVERINE!

Webber isn't a terrific defender by any means, but he's still a great rebounder. Rebounding is something we desperatly need because it seems to me all we ever do is give up one second hand opportunity after the next. Either way, he can't possibly be any worse on defense than Radmanovic or Brian Cook. That's just impossible

I think if Chris Webber were willing to sign for vet's min, then its an obvious signing, but It'd probably only be worthwhile if C-Webb would be willing to play the role Phil Jackson wants him to play.

human statue [IMG] , best post of the week! They look like a stone on the bench. At least become a man cheerleader like Ronny if you can't do crap [IMG] . Shammond doesnt seem enthusiasm when he got playing time. In his mind, he probably thinking "I made a mistake playing for the Lakers". As for Aaron, he didtry and heard he's a great locker room presence type of guy but the guy is too old.

Getting C-Web for 1.2 mil is a good bet. We need a big body right now and Webber can play at the 5 and is a consistent mid-range jump shooter. He is an insurance in case if Kwame, Bynum, Cook, or Vlad decide not to show up.

Well, if we can get him for the vets minimum (without paying luxury tax?)... I was always under the impression that his his huge contract from Philly was going along for the ride, but if it's not, then he is certainly someone to concider signing.
