The Bobcats have no interest in taking on any salary, and want expiring contracts along with a draft pick or two for Ely.</div>

Ely could be our backup option if Webber doesn't sign

I'd be willing to give them an expiring contract and a 2nd pick in 2009. Melvin Ely is a poor defender and erractic on offense. There's a reason why he's buried on the Bobcats bench.

But I'm guessing he could thrive under PJ?

There's not enough time left to turn Ely around. He made Chris Mihm look like an All-Star center the two times he matched up with Mihm last season. I'd rather sign someone like Marcus Fizer (has Triangle experience) to a 10-day contract.

Marcus Fizer? Isn't he the one that played for the Bucks a couple of seasons ago?
