5 game suspension, Iron Shiek called it right, Eddie Griffin is the dumbest player in the league.

Well, at least he's improving. Last time he was caught crashing his car while watching porno while being drunk. I'd say he's taking baby steps, but he's getting there

I wonder what would warrant a 5 game suspension.

OK, you want him? My guess would be that he could be included in a Marko Jaric deal if they need to match salaries.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Andy Katz does excellent work covering college basketball for espn.com. This does not make him immune from the No. 1 obstacle facing all members of the sports media:

Deciding what to believe when people tell you about a player without a track record.

In the fall of 2000, Katz made a visit to Seton Hall to write about Eddie Griffin, the nation's top-rated incoming freshman.

Coach Tommy Amaker offered this insight on Griffin: "He's a throwback. He made a statement last year that he doesn't believe you can skip steps. ... We just told him, 'Let's go to college, and if it's right to leave after one year, then go.' He's mature enough to understand that."

Darius Lane, a former Totino-Grace player, was a junior guard for the Hall back then. He had this to say about Griffin: "He's a regular guy. He wants to get better and wants to work."

Seton Hall opened that season rated No. 10, thanks to veterans such as Lane and three outstanding freshmen. The Pirates started 10-2 but the victories were over nonconference cupcakes. Then, in the Big East opener, Seton Hall lost to Georgetown 78-66.

Griffin was upset that Ty Shine didn't pass him the ball a couple of times. After the game, Griffin punched Shine as the guard was getting dressed in civilian clothes.

The Pirates finished 5-11 in the Big East and missed the NCAA tournament. Then, the two main characters in the Seton Hall flop departed: Amaker for Michigan and Griffin for the Houston Rockets.

Griffin's chemical problems surfaced there. He also had an assault charge against an ex-girlfriend. He was released by the Rockets in December 2003. He signed with New Jersey a month later but never played for the Nets.

The Timberwolves brought him in as a low-budget free agent for the 2004-05 season.</div>
