"MIAMI, January 12 ? The Miami HEAT announced that President and Head Coach Pat Riley underwent successful left hip replacement surgery yesterday. Riley had his surgery performed at Mercy Hospital in Miami, with the 60-minute procedure being performed by Dr. Carlos Lavernia. Riley previously underwent successful right knee surgery one week ago on January 5th to remove three large pieces of cartilage. That 60-minute procedure was performed at Doctors Hospital of Miami by Dr. Harlan Selesnick. No timetable has been set on his return. Riley has compiled a 1,166-608 (.657) career regular season record and a 171-107 (.615) career postseason record en route to capturing five NBA championships as a head coach. The winningest coach in HEAT history, Riley has compiled a 410-309 (.570) regular season mark with Miami and led the HEAT to its only NBA championship in 2006. Riley might be back after All-Star break <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Coach Pat Riley offered the clearest sign of his intention to return to the Heat bench this season by undergoing a hip replacement just six days after knee surgery. The Heat confirmed Friday that Riley had his left hip replaced Thursday at Mercy Hospital in Miami. The team termed the 60-minute procedure successful, but did not offer a timetable for a return. "He's doing fine. He sounded good," said interim coach Ron Rothstein, who spoke Friday to Riley. "I hope he gets healthy ... and the sooner the better." Riley, 61, left his return open-ended when he handed control to Rothstein on Jan. 3, but the most likely projected return would be after the Feb. 18 All-Star Game, which would mean an absence of 22 games. </div> Source
