^How fortunate I am - a black male - to be given an equal chance to succeed in life. Coincidentally, I had to write a report on discrimination and of course I had to mention Dr. King's accomplishments.

i have an idea. its mlk day but everybody knows about mlk, lets honour other civil rights leaders as well. to that end, i encourage everyone to honour a different civil rights leaders of their choice in their posts.

i'll start with Eldridge Cleaver: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eldridge_Cleaver
-he was more militant than pacifist but a great leader nonetheless
-easily one of the coolest dudes of the era as well

let me add W.E.B Du Bois: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W.E.B._Du_Bois
-he wrote the "souls of black folks" where he demarcated "the colour line" that pervades america
-he's personally one of my intellectual heroes
-fyi- there is actually an indian-american book in response to his called, "the karma of brown folks
-another fyi- recently after natalie portman spent a late night reading Du Bois, she proclaimed she felt connected with black folks in an interview the day after

All I reflect on is how thankfull I am of Dr. King, not for having today off, but for everything he has done for African-American's in this country.
