Well, the military's kind of brought this upon themselves. What areas do their recruiters most heavily target? What kind of people do they target? These are things that could be predicted if they weren't so preoccupied with replacing all the dying soldiers.

Who would you rather they try to target? The upper-class kids with college aspirations? No way in hell would those kids ditch their futures for Iraq.

The way to fix it would just be better screening of recruits for possible gang affiliations.

    Good find though. [IMG]

No, I mean not only do they target poorer areas. But they recruit kids that have no direction or have had problems in the past, because they have very little to lose. I didn't intend to blame the military, so much as the fact that they can't afford to really screen anyone anymore. The need for troops has become that bad.

Yeah, my Criminal Justice professor told us to watch it. It's really interesting, and to be honest, it's a brilliant move on the gang members part.

Like you said about screening for gang affiliation, I'm shocked that the military didn't catch this earlier.

That is some scary stuff. Brilliant move on the gang members' part, but a huge danger towards normal civilians.

So the military doesn't really do a background check on the soldiers?

People don't mind if they get send to Iraq, but if they manage to survive, and know the techniques, that's when the problem begins.

I'm not happy with what I learned, but you can't deny that it is a smart move on their part.

I'm not congratulating anyone, but for people who are stereotyped as morons and idiots, it's a brilliant move on their part.

Personally, I think it's disgusting. I'm upset that the military didn't catch these gang affiliations, or if they did, didn't give a damn about it.

I didn't say they were geniuses at all, but joining the military helps improve their skill in combat.

They get taught by the best, and end up screwing them over, by using the techniques they learned against them.

That is why I find it to be a smart move. Negative but still smart.

Don't think for one moment that I support them either.

    I hate gangmembers man.
As much as I think profiling is bad, when you look at what these idiots do over some stupid sh*t, I wouldn't be opposed to making it legal for cops to arrest anyone with a gang tattoo or a gang rag for just walking down the street.

Not to go on an off-topic tangent, but how can you lump drugdealers in with Mafia members?

It's nonviolent organized crime. It's totally different.

By drug dealers, I think he means the drug lords. The Arellano-Felix brothers, Pablo Escobar, and others. The ruthless, murdering scums of the earth.

Yeah what mamba said.don't worry I'm not including the college weed dealer although I do think if you're not a part of the solution you're part of the problem. I would not put the college weed dealer at the same level of a drug lord or a gang leader in terms of scumbag factor but I have no respect for anyone who sells drugs of any kind. harsh but that's it. I lost respect for an actor I knew who admitted he sold crack when he was in college to get by. from that day on I viewed the guy as having no integrity

Lol, yeah, I figured that's what you were talking about. I just get really defensive when people talk about drugs for some reason. [IMG]

(Which is not really uncalled for, because someone has to let people know how harmless [and even helpful] drugs can be.)

Wait a minute. I was with you up until you edited your post to include that bold part. That's really shallow and spoken out of inexperience. Drugs are not harmful in the slightest and can actually be used to the benefit of society.
