i don't think i've ever seen the raptors ranked that high - well, i haven't seen in it a few years i can say that EDIT: Oh, I think it's cuz their schedule has been really hard so far, apparently
It's kind of neat, and certainly it's a better indicator than simply looking at record (which is what mostly people do). But there are other factors (e.g. injuries, not giving a damn early in the season [ahem, Miami]) that make a big difference and are difficult or impossible to incorporate into a formula.
It gives too, much weight to the recent games, I'd like to see how the rankings adjust after the 33% drops to 25% weight instead. I think the formula should calculate the numbers based on PER 100 possessions.
All i can say is that Suns arent #1, Magic isnt 6, Houston isnt 4, Bulls arent 5 and Lakers are not only 8 and of course the Jazz are AT LEAST better than the raptors
I think the idea was to rank how teams are playing currently, versus what their performance has been the entire season. That explains at least some of the weird results.
Ok, I checked the rankings today and expected the Mavs to be #1 after they throttled the Lakers last night. They're still ranked behind Phoenix, which tells me this formula is flawed.

The only loss they've had in their last 10 games, is a 3 point defeat on the road to the Lakers. Dallas has won 19 of their last 20, including a victory over Phoenix.
Yea I don't know why some people are unhesitantly putting the suns over the mavs just because the suns could "easily" be on a 33 game winning streak if it weren't for close losses against Utah, Dallas, and Washington. The Mavs could "easily" be on a 20 game winning streak if it weren't for that close Lakers loss, who they beat in a blowout later in the season. That's why I think it's rediculous. Both teams are very close in power to be ranking one team clear over the other. To me, Phoenix has played an easier schedule though. I believe the Suns are 14-7 against western conference teams right now and 16-1 against the east. They are 2-5 against the top 6 teams in the West with their only wins comming against the hobbled Rockets. Alot of people may think they have vastly improved after losing those 5 early games in the year but it could also be that they have had a much easier schedule after starting the season against the Jazz, Spurs, Clippers (who were playing pretty well at the beginning of the season) and the Mavericks. Don't get me wrong. They are a great team. But as for them being unbeatable and amazing has something to do with this illusion of them playing a hard schedule

Yeah. I wasn't ragging on those rankings. They show that both teams are pretty even [rating wise]. I'm talking about the people and columnists that are anointing the suns as the clear favorite to win it all. "Hold your horses" I say to them. We have barely got past the half way point. There's still a long way to go.

They're 16-13 (45 win pace) when Wade plays this season, and 0-7 without him. Also in the games he's played, other guys have been injured, so even that is not reflective of how good the actually team is with Wade + the rest of the roster without Shaq. Also the Raptors have had more road games than home games 23 - 18 to be exact, so 6 more on the road.
