Who do we take? Well, the lottery is getting closer and closer..and I doubt we'll get a top 3 pick, we'll likely land anywhere from 4th-7th. So, as a Sixer fan from a team needs standpoint, who do you think would be the best fit with our main pick? If we land the 4th or 5th pick, I'd definitely go with Al Horford. We need a good legitimate PF that can bang in the post and Horford can come in and start and get it done for us easy. As somebody else said on here I believe, he's pretty much the best guy behind Oden/Durant/Wright. If we land 6th or 7th, I have no problem taking a chance on Yi Jianlian. I mean, if Horford still isn't on the board, it'd be a bit foolish not going with Yi. He's one of the most promising foreign prospects since Yao, and Yi isn't afraid to get down low and bang in the post either, dude has alot of aggressiveness in him. Julian Wright and Jeff Green are also options, but I'd take both Horford and Yi over them, and plus we're pretty much set at the SF spot..but if both bigs are gone then we'll have to go with Green or Wright. I hope Billy steers clear of Josh McRoberts. Joakim Noah's a thought.. My list in order is: 1. Al Horford 2. Yi Jianlian 3. Jeff Green 4. Joakim Noah 5. Al Thornton What about you guys?
Julian Wright already stated he is not coming out, assuming we don't get one of the top three picks and can't land Durant, Wright, or Oden I say we go after someone like Al Horford or another power forward/center I want to stay as far away from Noah as possible, he has bust written all over him.
Al Horford is definitely what this team needs. A legitamate threat from the low post, and he is solid on both end of the court. By the way this team is playing, I don't think they need a Kevin Durant to put them over the top. We'll also have money to spend in the future as well. I like where this team is going.
Yeah, I agree with Yi Jianlian, he could be like Paul Gasol, not really a low post threat but more of a soft-touch big man. Yes, again, drafting for need proves to be a costly mistake in many occasions, so Jeff Green could be an option, too.
I love Jeff Green, but he plays a position we really don't need any more help at so I can't see him being an option.
Im thinking our draft position could be a lot different come draft time because billy king and larry brown might pull off some kind of a trade to move up in the draft. so if we dont get a top 3 pick, we may get something like a 5-10 and a 13-20. If Al Horford is available we have to take him. If he isn't then i think the 7 footer from China would be a good choice. He seems like he has alot of upside.
Personally, I can't stand bigs that come over from overseas. Wasn't really high on Andrea Bargnani last year, even though he was Italian, and this year I'm even lower on Yi Jianlian. Soft bigs have no place in the NBA, it's a man's league. Once in a while you'll strike gold with a guy like Dirk, but it's not worth the risk. That being said, Jeff Green is number one on my list at this point. Love how this kid plays the game. He's a bit small at 6'8", but if we can plug him into the 4, we'll have a run-and-gun tempo offense immediately that fans would come to see. Andre Miller, Iguodala, Carney, and Green are all above average passers, so seeing them run the break would be amazing. Of course you have to take Noah and Horford into consideration as well, but I'd love to see Green in a Sixers uniform. Check him out this weekend against Ohio State, I'm sure you'll be impressed.
You were wrong about Bargnani too. He isn't soft. Just because a foreign player comes into the league needing some bulk, doesn't mean he's soft. American players come out like that all the time (think Chris Bosh coming out of Georgia Tech). I don't agree with you about Yi being a potential bust, but he may not be the right pick for you guys. He could very easily translate into the type of versatile small forward/power forward that the league seems to be heading for these days (Rashard Lewis, Charlie Villanueva, Marvin Williams, Kevin Durant, Thaddeus Young, etc.). But, the Sixers need more of a low-post player, because Iguodala's the clear-cut 3 for the future. I see Al Horford and Spencer Hawes as players who could fill that role.
We really dont need any more 3's. were pretty stacked at that position. We have to get a couple big men in the draft if we want to be a deep team in the future.

I'm a huge college fan, so naturally I'm going to favor the players such as Al Horford, Joakim Noah, Roy Hibbert, Jeff Green, Corey Brewer, Nick Young, Greg Oden, Derrick Byars, Acie Law, Chase Budinger, and Al Thornton over the rest of the pack. If you're looking for somebody to bring in to make or break your franchise (talking about millions of dollars here), then wouldn't it make SO MUCH more sense to bring in a player that physically dominated on the college level? To me it's so obvious it's almost ridiculous. Lets not forget, Pau Gasol came into the draft in 2001 as a "Small Forward / Power Forward", next thing you know he's being regarded as one of the softest post guys in the league. 2001 is a prime example. Guys like Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, DeSagana Diop, and Kedrick Brown were considered the "more talented" players over guys like Shane Battier, Jason Richardson, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, and Zach Randolph, who all showed it on America's soil against the second tier league in the NCAA. Don't even bring up the Olympics or Summer Games or whatever. Honestly, I care nothing for whom FC Barcelona plays tomorrow in basketball, or what the Guangdong Tigers' record is. Does it really matter what and who those kids are playing against? I can care less. Talk to me when Yi Jianlian, or who ever's bandwagon we're going to jump on next, goes up against Greg Oden, Joakim Noah, Roy Hibbert, or a well coached defensive minded team such as Michigan State, North Carolina, Duke, or Wisconsin. Hell, give me Alando Tucker or DJ White over Jianlian. At least I've seen Tucker and White go to work in the post against some of the Big 10's finest defenders. When I put millions of dollars into a prospect, not to mention my job, my coaches job, and other players' jobs, I want to make sure that I've seen this kid go against NBA-like competition. Just by glancing over this Chinese league, there's probably one other NBA-caliber player--and that's being generous. I'll give the Raptors coaching staff a load of credit, turning Bargnani into the player that he is today, because the common style of play overseas, at least that I've seen, is a soft style of play that I like not one bit. This post wasn't directed toward Chutney, but I've seen a number of different members across the board that favor Yi Jianlian, where it simply doesn't make sense to me. For all I care, maybe I'll be completely wrong; but I sure don't want to be that GM that wastes the 3rd pick in the draft on somebody we'll see in the NBDL one day and say to ourselves, "Man that kid had so much potential." With a late first or second-round pick, sure, I'll roll the dice a little bit; but we're talking about trying to build a franchise around this guy. That being said, Philadelphia does not need somebody that we'll have to take a huge gamble on. Andre Iguodala isn't going to be around forever, and we need to surround him with quality talent ASAP. This would probably mean favoring a guy like Joakim Noah or Jeff Green over some dude from Europe that scouts get to see in person maybe once a year.
Here's how I rank my top: 1. Kevin Durant 2. Greg Oden 3. Brandan Wright 4. Al Horford 5. Yi Jianlin 6. Jeff Green 8. ?? 9. ?? 10. Joakim Noah

It sounds like your making your judgments based on the fact that you have SEEN college players play. There have been a lot of good foreign players that have flown under the radar in the past couple seasons. Mehmet okur, Tony parker, Manu Ginobli, Yao ming...etc. I really wouldnt mind taking him, if our pick is below a top 5.

I'm glad you brought up those names. Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli, and Mehmet Okur, were all taken in either the late first-round (very late) or second-round of the NBA draft; thus only complimenting my point. There's no reason we should take an international player with a top 10 pick, being that most of them are bang or bust.
