<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ED SNIDER'S NBA team entered last night's game against the Miami Heat with a 10-29 record, second worst in the league, fresh off an embarrassing 118-102 loss to Memphis, the team with the worst record.

Snider's NHL team goes into today's game against New Jersey with an 11-31-4 record, worst in the league, well behind Los Angeles' second-worst 16-26-6.

Snider is the chairman of the ownership group that oversees the 76ers, Flyers, Wachovia Center and Wachovia Spectrum.

"I was embarrassed, I mean really, really embarrassed," he said of the Sixers' loss Wednesday that included giving up a whopping 70 points in the first half, the most they had allowed in a half since Atlanta scored 77 in the first half of the final game of the 1996-97 season.

The chairman had to feel better after last night's gutty, 98-95 overtime victory that included a much-improved defense and six players scoring in double figures as they overcame a 55-36 rebounding deficit and the Heat's 24-3 advantage on second-chance points.

But what about fans who have grown to believe that losing is the best path for the Sixers, who have possibly three first-round picks in the June draft? The more losses, the reasoning goes, the better the team's odds of getting better position in the lottery.

"Whenever it gets to the point that I don't want to win, I'm quitting," Snider said. "If that's the way I have to be responsible for the team, I'm quitting.

"If you think I'm sleeping well... I'm miserable. This is the worst year I've ever spent in sports, and I ain't happy."

Eyebrows arched the other day when NBC-10's John Clark asked Snider whether Larry Brown would ever again coach the Sixers and the chairman responded, after pausing, "I don't know."

"You never say yes or no to anything like that," Snider said yesterday, suggesting, "It's like a tempest in a teapot."

Brown coached the Sixers for six seasons, taking them to the Finals in 2000-01. After serving earlier this season as an unofficial consultant to president/general manager Billy King, he's back as an executive vice president.

When he was officially added to the front office, Brown said, "I'm not here to coach."

But when Clark posed his question, Snider didn't say "We have a coach" in Maurice Cheeks.

"Larry's in the front office because we added a great basketball mind," Snider said. "He's living in [the Philadelphia area], he adds depth to our organization.

"But if we wanted to make a change, if we wanted him to coach, does he have to be in the front office? We could have just picked up the phone, made a call."

In an e-mail response last night, King said: "There is no question about Maurice's job security. He is our head coach."

As for Brown, Snider said: "He and his family decided this is where they want to live; they don't want to move around anymore. I think the likelihood of him accepting a job somewhere else is also remote. To me, [the issue] is silly; it's irrelevant."

Asked, though, about the Sixers' current state, Snider said: "It isn't good. We're going to do what it takes to make it better. And that's Billy's job.

"Billy has to figure out what he has to do," the chairman said. "When he tells me what that is, I'll tell him what I think."

So the Flyers are one of the worst teams in the NHL, and the Sixers are also one of the worst teams in the NBA. Can you say failure? Why doesn't this guy do us all a favor and retire. He says he wants to win, well if you want to win, you make moves that help your team will. For an example, firing Billy King, which you still haven't done, and which you will probably never do because Billy King is your gay lover

What exactly did Snider expect after he traded Iverson? An incredible resurgence and a run to the NBA finals? Please, this guy is the biggest joke I have ever seen. Does anyone know if you have to pass an IQ test to be a sports owner?

He will feel a lot better when the Sixers pick either Greg Oden or Kevin Durant.

    ^Yup.

But what does this guy expect? You trade away your superstar player for little pieces to a rebuilding project and you just waive your other star player to another team. As for the Flyers, they just basically suck even with their decent team. Like miss3pointer25 said, maybe Snider`s the issue.
