<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">One plane ride, practice and shootaround after learning he had been transferred East, Troy Murphy made his debut for the Indiana Pacers on Saturday.

Quite naturally, appropriately and auspiciously, he opened with a double-double -- 10 points and 11 rebounds in their loss to New York at Conseco Fieldhouse.
"It's my job," he shrugged afterward.
If it's a simple job description, it's a difficult task. Consider that only three Pacers in the franchise's 30-season NBA history have averaged double figures in points and rebounds. Clark Kellogg did it as a rookie, Dale Davis did it once in his 10 seasons with the franchise and Jermaine O'Neal has done it three times.
Murphy, a seemingly non-athletic 6-11 forward, has done it three times in his five NBA seasons, and has done it every season in which he's averaged more than 30 minutes per game.
"I like to do it," he said. "I'm going to do it here."
Murphy scores because he has a smooth left-handed shooting stroke. He rebounds because he's figured out that relentless pursuit of missed shots has its rewards.
That's why the Pacers were willing to take on his contract. He becomes the team's second-highest paid player after Wednesday's eight-play swap with Golden State, and is owed $42 million in the four seasons after this one.
Murphy is happy with the move, figuring he'll fit much better into Carlisle's controlled system than he did in Golden State's uptempo style.
"I never felt comfortable playing out there for (coach) Don Nelson," he said. "I've always watched the Pacers and I like the way they play. They play a half-court game and I'm comfortable with that."</div>

What a joke. He views his role/job as getting a double double, just goes to show that he only cares about the numbers. I remember him saying that he looks at his stats a lot before games and stuff. And last season he didn't play the final game to preserve his 10.0 rebound average, and theres a rumor that said that if he averaged a double double he would get a bonus on his salary, which is why he didn't risk playing that final game.

This is the first time I heard him say he didn't feel comfortable in Nelson's system. Maybe cause Nelson knows Murphy is detrimental.

Don't be fooled by his numbers...

He's a charmin soft black hole with lead boots and has the funniest looking fade-away shot.

That's Murphy for ya. That's why I wanted him gone if the right "even" trade came along.

But it only means I'm going to eventually grow tired of the new guy that replaced Murphy.

The Warriors need a real four. We haven't had one in so long... Oh yeah we just traded him to Indiana (Ike).

Lets compare stats shall we? Why do we care about Murphy and Dunleavy anymore? They have scored about 15ppg total while we have guys going for 28-29pts everynight since the trade. Yeah, Pacers got the better end of the deal...

How do you guys like the trade still? I gotta be honest, I still think we got the better end of the deal, but it did not fix many problems except to free up a lot of cap space in a few years. It definately has not helped the team in the win/loss column...

I guess Indiana probably cares more about the Colts at this point. [IMG]

I wish the bay area wasn't such a suckfest for almost all the sports. I'm glad at least Hockey is doing well.
