The bears have gave a contract to restricted free agent Ricky Manning. If panthers dont match they get bears 3rd round pick. Manning highlight of his career was 3 ints in the 2003 NFC Champ game vs McNabb

Manning is a decent player, but don't the Bears have the
"Amazing" Nate Vasher and Charles Tillman?

We'll have to see how Vasher does this year - he had a good year last year, but that could have been just that - one good year.

Its got to be easier to play corner in Chicago, though, knowing that CB's don't have to worry as much about the run and with a decent pass rush most of the time.

"amazing" was meant in a sarcastic tone of course! and I agree completly, with a front 4 like they have who needs an elite corner when any schmo you throw back there can look like a pro bowler.

Nathan Vasher is the real deal folks.. He had a great rookie season.. and came out last year.. of course alot could be given to our D-Line for putting pressure with just the front 4 and causing bad passes.. but all in all Nathan Vasher is a stud.. Asfar as Tillman he is ok.. i had alot of hopes from him after his rookie Year but thats fading fast

Has anybody heard the offer $ amount.

I hope panthers match the offer because panthers would have a great CB core with Lucas, Gamble, Manning, and Howard. And hopefully they draft Devin Hester for mainly a KR/PR and Hester could be a good #5 CB.

    Heres an update from kffl.com

Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports the Chicago Bears have made an offer to restricted free agent CB Ricky Manning Jr. (Panthers), but so far it is not enough to get him to sign an offer sheet. According to sources close to the situation, the two sides remain far apart on details of the contract. The sources said Manning wants Chicago to sweeten its offer to include escalators that would significantly increase his pay if he ends up winning a starting job. The Bears made their offer after a meeting that spilled over into the early hours of this morning. The Chicago front office had been hesitant to make an offer to Manning, but the coaching staff persisted.

Heres the breaking news on Ricky Manning

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the offer sheet CB Ricky Manning Jr. (Panthers) signed with the Chicago Bears is a five-year deal that can be worth as much as $21 million. He would receive about $7.5 million over the next year.

21 million thats a lot for a CB, i dont think Panthers will match because they already have Reggie Howard for the Nickel and can draft a dime corner

    No poison pill?

Seems that is the way to go. I guess maybe front office has to much class for that kind of BS and likes to operate in spirit of the rules

Theres a huge poison pill in that contract...its the $21 million/5 year deal....$7.5mil guaranteed for a nickle CB is a little much when you have to give up a 3rd to get him....you dont need a traditional poison pill when you over pay to this degree....

Panthers will not match because that is way overpayment. And they get a 3rd round pick so i think they will find a better corner than Manning

well its probably a good signing for the Bears if they want a decent CB but of course hes a bit overpaid but thats kinda what you have to do if you want a restricted FA, they'll have another scary defense next year regardless

If the Bears are willing to spend big coin on a CB, why not go the extra mile and grab Ty Law or Charles Woodson?

I'm guessing because Manning is younger... I answered my own question. [IMG]

I would hope that Carolina doesn't match and gets an extra pick.

I heard that if the Bears get Manning they will trade out of the 1st and get the 3rd back. I say drop out the 1st get a 2nd and draft Klopfenstein (TE Colorado) who is supposed to be the 4th best TE this year.

We won't go after law or woodson.. because they will want to be the #1 guy on the team and we already have a #1 in vasher.. of course we have yet to see what he does in the #1 slot
