After nearly four months of inauspicious play and one suspicious off-floor incident, Maurice Taylor was waived by the Kings on Tuesday.

Taylor, who was signed in October as the Kings continued their bizarre search for a big man, said he was surprised by the decision.

"I didn't necessarily see it coming," Taylor said by phone. "Obviously it didn't work out the way myself or the Kings' organization thought it would. It was a situation to where we both had good intentions, I think."

If not results. Taylor entered training camp out of shape and unable to pass the conditioning test of first-year coach Eric Musselman. He played in only 12 games, getting 10-plus minutes just three times. Taylor also was suspended for five games in early December for violating the league's anti-drug policy.

"Obviously with the limited amount of minutes I was getting, it was hard for me to show what I can do," Taylor said. "That's the only thing I'd say that I'm upset about is that I didn't get the opportunity to show what I can do. Things happen, and it just didn't work out."

Taylor, who became available to the Kings only after accepting an $8 million buyout from New York, was given a guaranteed one-year deal worth $1.06 million. His departure marks the second costly move for the Kings in regard to their big-man search, as their decision to sign Loren Woods during the offseason and cut him before the regular season came with a $400,000 price tag in guaranteed money.

Taylor, who is in his ninth season, said the Kings have the talent for a turnaround.

"When you look at guys like Mike (Bibby) and Kev (Martin) and Ron (Artest), those are guys you can win with," he said. "It's just about getting it together. I don't think they're going to have a problem with talent anytime in the near future. ... This being (Musselman's) second (head-coaching) experience, I think that he still has the best interests of the team at heart. He still pushes the team. It's just a matter of the players putting it together."

Taylor said there are a "couple (of NBA) teams" he's looking at signing with but would not specify which ones.

"It's a question of whether I wanted to do something right now or did I just want to chill for a little bit," said Taylor, who is headed for his Houston home. "But I chilled for most of the season."</div>

I don't know what the "suspicious off-court" issue was, all I know is that at one time, with the Clippers and Rockets, this guy was a force inside. He's a bruiser who can score in the paint. I don't know if he's washed up now, but I'd say he's worth a look. Don't know how Nellie feels about his game, though.

But Taylor averaged 17.1 pts and 6.4 reb in 62 games with the Clips in 99-00, and he averaged 11.1 pts and 5.1 rebs in 03-04 with the Rockets.

He's pretty large, at 6'9" 260 pounds. I don't know if he can run the floor or block shots, though.

Maybe Powell is more worthy of the minutes. I guess I just have my radar turned on for any available big man who can bang inside. What do you all think? Is MO washed up? Should we just stick with Powell to see if he can develop his inside presence, or is MO worth a look at PF?

...and his FG%...under 30% suggests even scoring is history. 1999? Back then Terry Cummings still had game. Mo is no-mo. 2 teams ATE contracts to replace him with whoever's up from the Devo league.

If we get another tweener that plays PF, but can't rebound, it'll be hard to watch I must say. Let's see a different player out on the floor, something we don't have but can be available. Even if it's one dimension type player, I hope it's something we don't have enough of... like rebounding/defense. [IMG] Powell might be okay, but I dunno how good he is.

Let's get Robert "Tractor" Traylor and make him play Nellie ball.

    Oh, how about Oliver Miller?

AO, we don't have Murphy and Dunleavy anymore to guard him, so there probably won't be a repeat should we ever play again his team. But maybe we need to take him off the market so he won't punish us with Al Harrington guarding him. [IMG]

Taylor is a one-dimensional post scorer. He gets the occasional charge once in a while, but he's nothing the Warriors could use. A struggling Sacramento team just waived him, so obviously his value isn't very high at all.
