I heard chuck mentioning this on air one game but I had no knowledge of it before hand. Anyway the deal is this: when we traded for Lammond Murray and a furture second rd pick we gave up Micheal Stewart and a 2007 future first round pick with conditions attached. Anway Cleveland later traded that pick to the bobcats.anyway that pick is top 15 protected but if we have a higher pick than #15 that pick automatically goes to the Bobcats. The link explains the conditions in detail better. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Toronto owes its2007 first round draft pick to Charlotte Toronto’s own 2007 1st round pick to Charlotte via Cleveland (top 15 protected in the 2007 Draft, top 14 protected in the 2008 Draft, and unprotected in the 2009 Draft). [Cleveland – Toronto, 9/25/2002 and then Cleveland - Charlotte, 6/23/2004]</div> LINK I think the only possible way to make the playoffs and still keep our pick is if we finish 8th in the east and have a worse record than 8th in the west because thats what happned to Chicago lastyear and they had the 15th pick in the draft. It would suck to lose the Pick this year in what is rumored to be one of the deepest draft classes in history but if means making the play-offs its no real choice at all. All in All just another reason to hate Glen Grunwald last years as a GM.
Yea, I remember hearing them mention that during the game. "Yeah Leo, they traded that pick in the Lammond Murray trade." (long awkward pause)
To be fair, Lammond Murray was coming off a 15ppg season and Yogi Stewart was Yogi Stewart. I thought it was a great deal at the time, actually...
Yea so did I. Although my mind changed completely when Lammond went down for the year and a cheap replacement named Voshon Lenard played amazing in his absence.
Yea, I could understand that. Lammond Murray showed flashes of actually being a talented player offensively, however he didn't have good court vision to pass to teammates or just didn't want to pass. Also I'm sure Grunwald had now clue this year's draft would have been so deep.
At some point you have to start taking the necessary steps forward to advance as a franchise. If BC feels that we REALLY need that first rounder, he'll be able to pick one up im sure. I would rather make the playoffs though.
Lamond amounted to a giant pylon on defense as well. He was coming off a good year, but for a first rounder and Yogi?...we got stripped. Does anyone remember the ridiculous amount of money that Yogi was making? I remember it to be absolutly mind boggling.
Raps have plenty of incentive to win this season, this just adds to it. They might be able to trade Mo Pete for a late 1st rounder to a team like San Antonio or Utah. Both teams could use Mo Pete for their post season push. Jazz could offer 1st Round Pick + Giricek Spurs could offer 1st Round Pick + Barry
