Not sure if anybody posted this already, but very facinating ... I think it would be rather hard to execute though because some guys are really good actors <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jan. 25 (Bloomberg) -- National Basketball Association players who fake fouls might soon be penalized themselves, a league official said. The NBA is studying how often feigned fouls, known as ``flops,'' occur and whether officials can consistently tell the difference between actual fouls and embellishments, said Stu Jackson, the executive vice president for basketball operations. ``They're really difficult to determine in real time. They're meant to fool an official,'' Jackson told reporters today. ``Are we going to be wrong more times than not? It's tough, but we're looking at it.'' FIBA, the governing body for international basketball, allows referees to impose a technical foul for flopping, a penalty that Jackson said the NBA is considering. Other sports, including soccer and hockey, also allow officials to penalize players who embellish fouls. </div> full article:http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...Orko&refer=home
This would be stupid, flopping is part of the game. I don't have a problem with them flopping at all.

A flop is just as bad as fouling a player when he gets the ball and is on a partial break away. So if they arnt tech players for that, no need to tech for flopping. Flopping is part of the game, as long as it isnt a huge one, then a flop here and there isnt bad.
I would like to see less players dependent on the flop. I think it s good that Stu Jackson is looking at it before implementing it. Would a new flopping rule/fine discourage players from intentionally flopping?? What if everyone just gets better at acting the flop out?
If you take a charge flopping makes sense from a physics point of view. If you take a charge while standing like a brick wall you will recieve more of the impact. The new rules created this flopping monster. Its impossible to guard any player 1 on 1. so you find creative ways to play defence and get defencive turnovers. now a days there are probably more turnovers created off of flops than steals.
I think this could be a good rule. The NBA is not getting rid of a players ability to take a charge, they just don't want people to pretend that they are absorbing a lot of contact and falling over when the player with the ball barely skimmed them. So they are just penalizing "fake" charges (or they hope to be able to differentiate), they have to keep the ability of a player to take a charge, or else the offensive player can just barrel through guys lol.
It's a tough call because flopping sometimes calls attention to a sneaky foul which makes it a good thing, but obviously overreacting and getting the call is a lame way to play.
Between this and the new touch fouls, it's become virtually impossible to stop perimeter players. Or maybe I'm just saying that because most of the Toronto Raptors flop.
The should include it on the offensive end too. No more acting like the player got shot while hes on his way to the hoop.
Penalizing a player who flops is not the solution. A player can make the case he was anticipating contact to avoid injury. The NBA and the officials had the solution a decade ago, and that solution was the "no call." The no call will eliminate flopping because it puts the defender completely out of position to defend. A decade ago, if a player was foolish enough to fall down on purpose to try and draw a foul, he'd wind up being dunked on. The "no call" can also be used for offensive players who initiate contact, but don't get called for it. Often times we see a collision by a player driving to the basket and a defender playing straight up. The benefit of the foul typically favors the offensive player, eventhough the call could go either way. The overall game will benefit if the NBA goes back to officiating games with the option of not always having to blow the whistle. The NBA needs to get back to letting the playes decide the game.
A fine won't stop players from flopping. Players make lots of lots of money, so they can afford to flop all they want. A no call seems like a great idea, but it's gonna be difficult to see which is real contact and which is a flop.

The no-call would really make players like Bell, Manu, and Bowen think harder about falling down next time.
I think this is the most retarded rule ever. This is just the NBA trying to get more scoring in the game for the fans IMO.
